After a daring maneuver, the Russian military have completely surrounded Ukraine forces in the Kursk region. The Ukraine soldiers seemingly have been instructed to continue trying to fight on behalf of Zelenskyy.
President Trump is asking Russian President Vladimir Putin to spare the lives of the Ukraine troops.

The Kursk Tweet appears to be for public consumption. It certainly appears to be a strategic message, likely coordinated by both the U.S. team and Russia.

Announce cooperation with Russia from their base in Syria, to create a large “cordon sanitaire” in Latakia Syria, to prevent Christians from slaughter.

The Russians would probably agree to this if Solinski gives them in order to lay down their weapons and present themselves for travel back to Ukraine. Otherwise, they got caught in a kessel ad so many of their earlier cousins did in WWII
They'd have better chances in Siberia. Western Europe would just give them new guns and Ukraine would put them back in the trenches.
Siberia wouldn't be pleasant, but it's probably safer than the alternatives.

The single most important part of this development is that this information got to Trump and to the public. This is the sort of stuff the Biden team was denying to the public, which had people imagining various things that were absurd.
Surrender is the right solution for any military officer that faces eradication of his troops given no remaining ammo or food. The British Army surrendered Singapore in WWII for lack of water.
This is the right reply from Putin. As for being allowed to march out without arms, etc, that’s not how it works with POWs. A POW has to be established and documented as such. Any trade in the future will be similarly documented.
Otherwise, you will have people turning around as soon as they are free claiming the Russians did not let everyone out.
