Canada has ordered 88 F-35A fighters for $14.5 billion, and now they are really discussing whether the Pentagon can press a special button and turn all those aircraft into scrap metal if necessary The fear of being left unarmed and defenseless against armed aggression is exactly what the Trumpists have sown among their allies with their latest actions. Canadians, who have repeatedly heard threats from Donald Trump about the "51st U.S. state" and face the tariff war unleashed by Washington, have become anxious about their security.
So, Canadian expert circles have expressed concerns about the ongoing acquisition of American F-35 fifth-generation fighters and to consider whether the government should cancel the deal. A brief reminder: Ottawa ordered 88 F-35As in 2023 for 14.5 billion (hereinafter) US dollars. The Canadian Ministry of Defense also has estimated the F-35's operational costs for a projected 45 years in service at $54 billion.
In an article for The Globe and Mail, Michael Byers, co-director of the Vancouver Outer Space Institute, recalled that the United States holds unilateral control over the source code for F-35's mission programming. In fact, he claimed, the US could simply remotely turn off F-35s' advanced situational awareness capabilities and achieve air superiority, "perhaps with just a few keyboard strokes," Byers notes.

Just like electric cars.
“...shouldn’t this be a concern with all weaponry made from anybody?...”
Yep. That’s one of the many reasons that Deep State is scrared spitless of losing control to Trump.
But yeah, the same holds true for our newer vehices as well, especially EVs.
Deep State can shutdwon your car, cell phone, etc. anytime they “feel the need” to do so.... They’re not just monitoring, they have full control of those devises as they see fit.
You mean the Liberal government is worried (probably just making this up)and not Canadians ,LOL
Nice analysis soup...
If this were possible, wouldn’t we have bricked the assets left in Afghanistan by now? The question, why isn’t it possible. Seems like a good idea.
What do they need them for? Strafing truckers?
Just like electric cars.
If the USA has a kill switch on its advanced fighters you really think every other country that manufactures them doesn’t?
Buy Migs then.
Exactly.
Who knows who is making waves in Canada specifically, but this is all proceeding through military circles.
Few would buy them knowing they could be shut off remotely. There were some concerns about various issues among the buyers. Israel wanted to install their own avionics for one example. We didn’t want to give up too much technological info or design details.
ALL YOUR F-35 ARE BELONG TO US!
I would worry about many US weapons, like those F16 jammers.
Now everyone is aware.
Maybe there are issues with non-US makers, but I suspect removal of the ratfuck switch presale or after will become pressing for everyone, but the most so for the US.
BECAUSE THE US ACTUALLY USED IT.
They’re so naive, they’d believe it.
Our reported cost is approximately $80 million per.
I can see a trapdoor in the operating system for the aircraft, but that would likely take an on-site activation and that would be for a single aircraft. On the other hand, I could envision an electronic pulse, like an EMP, burning a diode in multiple aircraft, the resulting short which then completes an electronic path to a previous-dormant section of memory and releases a virus to do nasty things.
Trust. It lubricates everything. When its gone it adds layers of PITB. And its not freaking easy to rule out backdoors.
Ask me about Chinese made utility equipment.
Most of them are bonkers liberal. Send them all back to Europe to “fight Russia” or pass down traditional cooking or whatever, and they can take our liberals with them too.
