On Saturday, as some expected, House Republicans shared the text of the continuing resolution spending bill, in hopes of avoiding a government shutdown after March 14.
As our sister site Townhall.com reported:
House Republicans released a six-month stopgap government spending plan that would cut nondefense programs while increasing funding for defense. If the bill is passed, Congress would avert a partial government shutdown during the first 100 days of Trump’s second term and keep the government funded through September.
...
According to the 99-page bill, the plan includes a moderate defense funding increase to about $6 billion above fiscal year 2024 levels, though below levels previously agreed to for fiscal year 2025 under a bipartisan spending-limits deal struck in 2023. The bill also seeks to allow the Defense Department flexibility to start new programs and move funds around, as defense hawks have raised concerns about the military being hamstrung by a six-month funding patch without significant changes. It would also fund already-authorized pay increases for junior enlisted military personnel. There is also $6 billion allocated to healthcare for veterans. Additionally, funding for non-defense programs would decrease by about $13 billion below fiscal year 2024 levels.
It allocates $892.5 billion for discretionary federal defense spending and $708 billion for non-defense discretionary spending.
President Trump gave his blessing to the plans for the stopgap bill, writing in a post, after the text was released on his Truth Social account, that what both the House and Senate are crafting is "very good...under the circumstances."
He went on, strongly urging every Republican to vote for passage of the legislation, which is expected to come up for a vote next week. Reminding Americans of his promises to turn around the nation during the presidential campaign, Trump asked for patience, writing:
Great things are coming for America, and I am asking you all to give us a few months to get us through to September so we can continue to put the Country’s “financial house” in order.
The president warned that "Democrats will do anything they can to shut down our Government, and we can’t let that happen." His prescription? For Republicans to "remain UNITED — NO DISSENT — Fight for another day when the timing is right."
Calling the moment "very important," Pres. Trump closed his message with the rallying cry from the election: "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
The White House magnified his post on X:
VERY IMPORTANT!
"The House and Senate have put together, under the circumstances, a very good funding Bill ('CR')! All Republicans should vote (Please!) YES next week." –President Donald J. Trump🇺🇸

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), a member of the House Freedom Caucus, also shared a video on Friday evening, promising that MAGA Republicans have got this. He calls the spending bill "a final step of clearing the deck for President Trump and our America First agenda":
MAGA Republicans have things well in hand. The CR through September is a final step of clearing the deck for President Trump and our America First agenda. Democrat elitists who have been devouring our country are freaking out, but they’re powerless to stop us. pic.twitter.com/1GUtwFSK3j— Rep. Clay Higgins (@RepClayHiggins) March 9, 2025
This is a developing story, RedState will provide further updates as they become available.
President Trump's recent speech to a joint session of Congress has radical Democrats in panic mode, and their childish attempts to shut down the government won't wash with the American people.
If the government shuts down, it will be because some Republicans refused to support the CR.
that includes you, Massie
Massie will always vote No...That’s his signature...That’s what he thinks makes him relevant. He’s a jerk.
Massie is free to do whatever he wants to I will not join a mob to denounce him.
Other members of the GOP in House and Senate clearly on the side of wasteful spending this CR has their pork and they are at the very least being tolerated.
Massie opposed before when it came to other legislation to spend and it was approved anyway no need to dramatize the notion he is the impediment to passage.
Do CRs qualify for Reconciliation?
Details, Details...Balance a budget please is my plea but at least I can work on that in my own life without this drama in Washington.
Aw, mobs are such happy things. Put a little fun in your life. 😁
So are you more committed to Massie than Trump? And keep in mind that Massie’s vote is either Yes or No, and not Other with some type of explanation.
His signature indeed.
IIRC, he’s previously voted for big spending having no realistic assurances of long term reductions. But now, he’s “had it” with the promise of eventual reductions — despite the incredible progress that’s been made within the last 6 weeks.
The last time Congress passed an actual budget was 1997. 28 years of CRs! TWENTY-EIGHT YEARS!
No No No No No more CR’s. Come on Trump. This is BS. Shut the government down. No pay for federal employees and just fire all the ones that aren’t essential. But. The main reason I voted for Trump is the J6 prisoners. That and RFK Jr. So whatever else good happens I am still satisfied.
Yeah - the reason we’re in the bind we are now is because Republicans can never unite for anything...it’s the only reason the Dems have had such free-rein to screw us.
You can also bet, that if President Trump gets this passed, he will demand the Congress do its job and come up with an actual budget for next year.
F—k Massie and any who stomp their little feet instead of getting the job done...the current mess was created before last November’s elections and nit-picking now just helps the Dems.
If the government shuts down that means the federal courts are closed.
That would be such a tragedy.
Lol.
No pay period for any federal monies. If you are going to shut the government down, it has to shut down completely. Shutdowns are a joke and cost money. People need to realize we are broke.
Massie is a continuous problem. Count on him to screw things up for the hell of it. Another back bench rock chunker with really bad hair.
He didn’t ‘screw it up’ on his last NO vote the legislation passed anyway.
In 2020 Massie was right to oppose the two trillion in spending on COVID absolutely right.
