Nope... if they join a war on their own, outside of NATO and get attacked, Article V does not come into play. Anyway, all Article V only requires us to do what we deem necessary. That could be as little as a diplomatic protest.

Disingenuous article. NATO is considering sending peacekeeping troops into Ukraine, not combat troops. And Article 5 is invoked when a NATO country is attacked, not when NATO troops are attacked. There is a difference.
Anyway, I donāt have a dog in this hunt - except that I donāt want a single American soldier involved or a single American dollar involved.

If NATO countries choose to start an unnecessary war that the US explicitly stated we would not participate inā¦ It would seem irrational to come to their defense.
The other countries outside of the U.S. don’t have the strength in military force. If we drop out right now that ‘talk of war’ will stop fast.

Iād be surprised if all of these European nations could collectively come up with 100,000 military personnel to staff a global āToys for Totsā campaign for three days.
