The reason this matters is that a significant number of people who are supposed to be working for the government are doing so little work that they are not checking their email at all!
In some cases, we believe non-existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect paychecks. In other words, there is outright fraud.
I don’t know what he was thinking. Having 2 million write a page of duties would take months to read. He’s very smart but lacks common sense.
AI.
There are approximately 3 million federal employees.
Who is going to read the 3 million email replies?
How long does it take to read 3 million email replies?
He’s probably going after remote workers. Most of us at my office are in a SCIF, so we have to badge in daily, account for all of our time, and report all foreign travel (even on personal vacations). Instead of a blanket requirement to list 5 things in an email (even though I have appraisals every 3 months), go after those where there is no duty presence accountability.
Many years ago my boss hired a contractor. I was one as well. and we had to do weekly status reports. The boss later hired me at another job (working on the mobile phone pilot software) and he would tell me about this new hire who wrote on his status report. “Progress is slow and costly” It would crack Dave up. the guy didn’t last too long.
Yeah great. Even he’s lazy.
This is bareboat sailing season. I probably would be OOO if i was still working. course my OOO auto-reply would state that.
Lazy? It's a valuable tool!
I think it has good areas. But wait until they begin showing trump saying something he didn’t. By the time it’s found to be AI, it will be too late.
First, that is one black mark against every single one of them. Second, they will tell all of their employees to comply. Third, they will provide a list of everyone in their departments suggesting that they should defy this directive and fire them. Any who are essential can be put on 15 days unpaid admin leave after writing Trump a letter apologizing.
WTFingF.
I am not sure why there is a problem. Many, if not most companies, in the commercial sector (certainly Boeing where I worked many years ago) require, workers to record a daily record of how their time, was spent. It is not a punish!ent. It is meant to inform the company of where the emphasis in work is being felt and performed. It helps to find inefficiencies in overlap, deficiencies in manpower, etc.
Musk, coming from the corporate world, would be used to using this tool. I am concerned that Pattel and Gabbard are attempting to block this. Perhaps it needs to be explained better, but FOR SURE Trump’s cabinet need to talk to each other and Trump BEFORE shutting each other down. They are not helping.
After thinking about this i think this is stupid. If there are Ghost employees then there are ghost managers or at least complicit managers. Just have each new dept head require email monitor. Then if there are dormant accounts you need to know why. HR cross ref for family leave act, vaca, etc. terminated, recently retired, bad systems management. I think a lot of this computer stuff assumes that these systems are being run as a company would. They are not. The systems people probably don’t perform anything close to regular maintenance. They may not purge the old accounts and maybe they can’t.
This also assumes everyone’s workflow is email driven. Some are not. Some might be other management systems. cash app, document scans, imaging, or phone queues, etc.
What he’s not saying is, it’s always easier to fire someone “for cause”, and refusal to respond to a simple request like this is a performance problem. Going out of one’s way to bitch about it or telling others not to respond is insubordination.
Strategery...
The way Patel and all the other cabinet secretaries see this is as an outsider contractor came into their department and started making idiot demands.
The excuse Musk made in response to the total pushback is weak.
Trump himself already posted that Musk is “doing an excellent job, but.....”
So, not a good week to be out on vacation with a twit of a boss on the prowl !
>> I can’t believe anybody would complain about ONE email with only FIVE bullet points about what they did.
Yep, in ANY job if you’re actually contributing, spelling out what you’re doing is simply not that difficult.
The direction came from Trump. Elon communicated it.
Well, it was a stupid and counterproductive idea.
Gubmint employees work for me and every taxpayer.
Musk was just looking for a proof of life email.
A simple F U Elon would have been sufficient to verify there was a live body on the address to which a paycheck is being mailed.
There are folk on this board getting their knickers in a knot thinking Musk was harassing the bureaucratic drones of the gubmint.
Really?
Don’t melt snowflakes.
