President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he will be launching an investigation into the high cost of California High Speed Rail (CAHSR), fulfilling a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) promise made late last year.
Originally estimated to cost $33 billion in 2008 with a San Francisco to Los Angeles line set to open by 2028, the California high speed rail system has since ballooned to costing $128 billion, to $135 billion, with an estimated partial completion being set somewhere in the 2030’s. Last year in March, the California High Speed Rail Authority (CHRSA) confirmed that the system still needed $100 billion to link up San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Since March 2024, the “$100 billion behind” number has remained largely unchanged. But the grand scale of the project has only invited more criticism. Following Donald Trump’s victory last month and his proposal of forming the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the cost of the High Speed Rail project has once again fallen under federal crosshairs. Previously, Trump cancelled around $1 billion in funding for the project when he was still in his first term, only for President Joe Biden to bring it back, along with an extra $300,000.

In 2019, President Trump recalled $3.5 billion in Federal funds for the railway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Joe Biden gave it back.
Another interesting event to watch!!
Double the lanes of the 5 freeway and add a high speed bus lane. Could’ve been done 10 years ago at 1/20th the cost. Also increase jet transport. But who the heck wants to go to San Franfeces?
How fast do you think a high-speed bus could run?
Not to mention that this would be government overreach in and of itself.
About time!
Thank you. Classic politics!
Where IS Willie Green these days, anyhow?
Workin’ on the railroad. All the live long day.
He should launch an investigation into Hawaii’s Skyline mass transit system. I’d love to see the corruption exposed here. Aloha doesn’t begin to cover it.
Looks like Willie got into a pissin’ match with The Man himself on October 14, 2010. Seems to have been fatal:

Over 35 million Americans rely on some form of public tansportation to commute to work every weekday.
If that makes them “marxist” in your worldview, then I suggest that you refrain from hanging out with the whacknut libertarians. They obviously have been a bad influence on you.

I’ve said the same - $100B is a HUGE amount of money and just the interest on it can finance a fleet of buses to take people to SF/LA. As to the condition of the cities, we’re getting close to the point where we’ll just have to start federalizing the management of these places as Democrats are no longer competent, thanks to Universal Voting.
CA had the chance to rid themselves of Newsom and they chose not to.
Originally estimated to cost $33 billion

Standard trick of Government projects. Estimate low cost in proposal, and then, when the project is approved, just let the taxpayer pay an inflated bill.
See Boston’s own Big Dig.
The guy making the proposal admitted just that! He confessed, that he liked the idea, but he knew, that if the estimated price was anywhere near the final one, the project would never be approved!
I suspect everything but the railroad is being funded. This is probably Kalifornia’s version of USAID.
I can’t wait to see the results as to where all that money is going.
The democrat communist regime is being taken apart piece by piece. The rats won’t have any wagons to circle when DOGE is done.
The media liars can’t keep up with it.
YES!!
Then do fricking AMTRAK, especially Acela.
I would love to see coast to coast train travel.
Make train travel great again, Mr. President.
A railway that nobody wants!
started in 83? By Moonbeam for the glory of Moonbeam with $1.25 billion, look at it now still just a steaming pile of graft for democrats and their cronies.
