As CNN‘s ratings plummet to record lows, some so-called journalists at the network claim that the failure is due to the network’s soft approach to President-elect Donald Trump.
According to an anonymous report in The Washington Post, CNN journalists said that Trump’s coverage during the 2024 election cycle was insufficiently critical.
They claim that the decision to hold a town hall with Trump last year also upset both staff and viewers.
“It is widely felt at CNN that we didn’t meet the mark,” one insider said of the network’s handling of the election.
“I think a lot of it can be explained by the viewers making a decision that they just don’t like what we’re doing. The viewers are pretty smart.”
However, despite claims the claims the network is leading among other news outlets, ratings show otherwise.
CNN’s daily audience among the coveted 24-54 demographic dropped by 1 percent from 2023, from 94,000 to 92,000 viewers.
The network now accounts for a measly 11 percent of prime-time cable news viewers
Since Trump’s presidential victory, CNN’s prime-time viewership has plummeted by 52 percent.
The news comes following the network’s leadership troubles. Former CEO Chris Licht was dismissed after a brief and controversial tenure, and his replacement, Mark Thompson, promised a more balanced approach—which has failed to materialize.
Meanwhile, veteran anchor Chris Wallace left the network amid plummeting ratings,
CNN’s revenue and influence continue to be tied to traditional TV ratings, while its digital presence suffers also with the launch of a $3.99 subscription service for online content falling flat in the face of competitors
“What’s hard for me is: What is CNN known for? CNN is known for breaking news,” said Cilizza.
“People turn it on when something big happens. And I think that’s a really good brand journalistically, but I just don’t know how you make money off it.”
“Ratings control everything,” a former senior producer explained.
“It controls the money, it controls the influence, and it’s a huge morale issue.”

CNN should go with that.
You beat me
🤦♂️
They get more delusional by the day. Amazing.
Never mind that the above is true nonsense. Suggest it to them and see if it shows up in a couple of days as a 'new' method to keep him from office.
fixed it.
What a self-important gasbag.
fixed it.
What a self-important gasbag.
These fools keep digging.
“Never mind that the above is true nonsense. ... “
Hey, nonsense is pretty much all CNN peddles.
When they debuted back in June 1980 it didn’t take long for them to earn the handle ‘Communist News Network’.
That makes sense 😃
It is like CNN isn’t even aware of the fate of PMSNBC.
The Talking Heads of CNN had better bail on the network before it goes down.
When a tightly bound group of people begin to double down like this, it begins to take on the attributes of a genuine cult. Listen to Cilliza: he can’t figure out how to make money by being the network everyone trusts to deliver timely accurate news in a crisis. Instead he seems to think pandering bs to a small group of true believers is a better idea. Okey-dokey Chris, see ya around.
Doubling down only works for winners like Trump, not losers like CNN.
Yup. These clowns do not understand cause and effect. They should look in the mirror and discover how stupid they are.

I always liked that idea, in a war on foreign soil, but when the enemy is your President, you may not have time to save your home.
