Star Trek: Deleted Scene - The Doomsday Machine - "Commodore Decker Was Begged By His Crew For Help". "The Doomsday Machine" was written by Norman Spinrad, and directed by Marc Daniels. In this deleted Star Trek (TOS - The Original Series) scene, Commodore Matt Decker (William Windom) has an alternate take, with Captain James Kirk (William Shatner) asking him questions, of camera. This deleted scene has alternate dialogue from Matt Decker (William Windom), who does an absolutely brilliant job of acting, where, you actually feel his pain, for the loss of his entire crew, on a planet that was devoured by The Doomsday Machine. Enjoy.
For later.

Here it is.
It didn’t let you link it when you posted, zeroed out the link.
My favorite episode.
I really hope they don’t try and re-use the planet killer in modern Star Trek.
They’d ruin it. Forever.
Yes, it’s more like a deleted take. The scene that made it in is so much more powerful.
I’ve seen all 79 episodes many times over. A person can legitimately claim there are 81 but that’s nerdy talk. It’s incredible to see stuff I’ve never seen before.
For better or worse, this is the most influential TV series for me.
Indeed. I remember when the series ended. I asked my dad “So there’s not going to be any more Star Trek?”. And he said “There will be reruns”. He didn’t know how right he was.
I have a love-hate relationship with Bugles. I don’t want to talk about it.
Not a deleted scene. More of a take not used. It’s pretty much the same as the original broadcasted scene
“William Windom should have won an Emmy for the scene”
That wasn’t acting - he was a captain of a Star Ship and lost his entire crew.
I’m pulling my Set Out !

My Fav is “The Menagerie”-—”The Cage”
I thought that thing was going to kill Kirk when he piloted the crippled ship, I think the constellation, into its opening. The transporter was failing. I, being about 11 at the time, ran upstairs to my room, thinking it was over for Kirk.
How impressionable a youngster I was. :)
The episode is In Harm's Way, with William Windom reprising his role as Commodore Decker, as well as Star Trek alums Barbara Luna and Malachi Throne.
The video is at the link.

This is one of the most gripping hours of TV ever. I’ve seen all the TOS episodes dozens of times and this one stands out above them all.
Windom’s performance was amazing. The tension, sense of dread, the Enterprise crew’s efforts to figure out a way to combat the planet killer, Kirk’s stoicism in the face of potential imminent death- “Gentlemen, I suggest you beam me aboard”, the musical score, it all just works and holds up very well over 50 years later.
