“The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world”.

(Well, it used to actually be mothers...)

I miss my Mom. I think about her more often as the years pass. She passed away 48 years ago. She was only 59.

My mother turned 95 on the 23th . She has bladder cancer , which hasn’t spread , and some other issues , but is a tough old woman of English / Irish decent ( Tuthill / Hand ) and is hanging in there . My father was a jerk , to put it simply and mildly . I remember one time he gave my mother money to go Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve . Somehow she managed to get us some of the things we wished for . He never watched us open our gifts . I can still see him walking through the living room , where the tree was , dressed to the nines on his way to stand in the back of St. Joseph’s Church and then head on down to the Knights Of Columbus bar to drink . Never even managed a Merry Christmas . Ma did all the shopping , wrapping , etc. for SIX kids . 2024 will probably be her last . Sadly , I can’t see her as I am in Japan and she is on eastern Long Island living with one of my sisters who is taking care of her . Love my Ma !

This is our first Christmas without her. She died in August just a couple months shy of her 100th birthday. A spitfire to the end.

She loved Christmas and made it special for us with hardly any money. Dad’s income as a country preacher was meager.

Here in Indonesia, National Mother’s Day is on 22 December. Not sure why.

My Mom was too young when she passed away 62 years ago when I was 11. I have loving memories of her but not as many as I’d like to have. I love you, Mom and Dad.

My mom’s father passed away on Christmas Eve in 1950. We would raise a toast to him every Christmas Eve. Mom passed away a year ago, and now I raise a toast to both of them.
