When Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton speaks, people listen. Whether those "listeners" are Republicans, Democrats, or members of the media, Cotton's words carry weight.
This is not to suggest that "all of the above" agree with the Arkansas senator, but they do know that he's a no-nonsense, bottom-line guy. So when Cotton posted to X (formerly, Twitter) that he suspects that all of President-elect Donald Trump's nominees will be confirmed by the GOP-controlled Senate, chances are he had already done his homework before making such a statement.
I expect our Republican Senate is going to confirm all of President Trump's nominees.— Tom Cotton (@TomCottonAR) December 9, 2024
In a subsequent tweet, Cotton said that no one should be surprised that the Senate will confirm all of Trump's nominees while also including a bit of a history lesson.
Of the 72 cabinet secretary nominees since the Clinton transition, only 2 nominees have ever received NO votes from the president-elect's party.
No one should be surprised that the Republican Senate will confirm President Trump’s nominees.
The word "resolute" comes to mind.

Cotton was elected in November as the Senate Republican Conference chair, the third most senior role in the chamber. His bold prediction is the strongest indication yet that congressional Republicans — at least in the Senate — are ready to get down to work and hit the ground running when Trump is sworn in.

Perhaps Trump's most controversial nominee (which is nonsense, re: controversial) is former "Fox & Friends Weekend" co-host Pete Hegseth, who the president-elect chose to become his Secretary of Defense. Hegseth has faced stiff opposition, including from several congressional Republicans, mostly notably Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst.
Trump posted his continuing support for Hegseth on Truth Social Friday.
Pete Hegseth is doing very well. He will be a fantastic, high energy, Secretary of Defense. Pete is a WINNER, and there is nothing that can be done to change that!!!”
Trump also told NBC’s “Meet the Press” in an interview recorded on Friday that he believes Hegseth will be confirmed and that he still has confidence in him.

Among other Trump nominees, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary for Health and Human Services, Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence, and Kash Patel as the Director of the FBI have faced opposition, as well.
It's also worth noting that former Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz "voluntarily withdrew" as Trump's choice for U.S. Attorney General after several Republican senators indicated they wouldn't support his confirmation.
Still, now that the Gaetz dust has settled, I'll go out on a limb and predict that Cotton will be proved right.
That was a good letter from Cotton to Austin.
Austin is a dog puke.
Good. Make it so.
Hopefully, the January cleansing will stir up a lot of dust to be vacuumed out of DC.
Noticed that Wray is resigning.
It just seems that there is a completely different atmosphere for the better since election night.
Joni’s little charade has fizzled and now is getting in line. Nevertheless, she needs to be removed next primary.
BTTT
I project that there will be an Executive Order on January 20th that includes a long list of positions that are declared vacated in the Executive branch wherever there math still be an official who might still think they hold the position. I also expect that within days, if not allowed prior, that the most critical positions will be confirmed & Vance extremely busy swearing them in. I certainly don’t think any House members should resign for Executive branch positions until the Speaker is elected & committee chairs in place. The department heads and agency heads need to be answering letters & attending hearings about the most appropriate subjects that need addressing. For example, can you imagine not having Chairman Jim Jordan the next 2 years? I think he would be a splendid Cabinet member. But he knows how to run a House committee meeting and make sure appropriate questions get asked & answered.
This hasn't been confirmed. Just rumors so far.
What’s up with Ernst’s opposition. It’s not as if she’s being rewarded for that opposition, considering all the creepy dirt that’s come out on her.
President Trump is not playing this time. He and Musk have threatened to primary any Republican Senators from red states who vote against any of his nominees. The RINOs know damned good and well that if Trump denounces them and supports a challenger, they will lose in the next primary. The voters are with Trump, not them.
John Cornyn and Thom Tillis need to join Joni on the unemployment line.
Are we sure that not one Democrat will vote to confirm?
All but 2 Republicans voted for Biden’s nomination for dept of defense. Lloyd Austin
The ultimate hammer is taking away committee assignments from those who do not play ball.
Susan Collins of Main stands to lose the chair of the Appropriations Committee.
Charlie Kirk is in on that promise. His involvement is not to be taken lightly, as Tea Party Action provided much of the organization for the GOTV aspect of the Trump47 campaign.
I’m not really convinced there is much dissent on Trump’s picks. Every report about friction comes from leftist sources, unnamed of course.
The Hill, NYT, Axios, WaPo, Politico……all seem to be where these stories are first reported. The left gloats about it and the right starts blaming each other. It’s a very old playbook and we fall for it every time.
