On December 4, 2024, UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was assassinated in New York City.
The very next day, Associated Press reported, “Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield reverses decision to put a time limit on anesthesia.”
I suppose that for those who subscribe to the branch of philosophy known as “utilitarianism,” it could likely be argued that the killer has already caused a net increase in the total well being of humanity.
Wikipedia states:
In ethical philosophy, utilitarianism is a family of normative ethical theories that prescribe actions that maximize happiness and well-being for the affected individuals. In other words, utilitarian ideas encourage actions that lead to the greatest good for the greatest number. Although different varieties of utilitarianism admit different characterizations, the basic idea behind all of them is, in some sense, to maximize utility, which is often defined in terms of well-being or related concepts. For instance, Jeremy Bentham, the founder of utilitarianism, described utility as the capacity of actions or objects to produce benefits, such as pleasure, happiness, and good, or to prevent harm, such as pain and unhappiness, to those affected.
This killing is something that philosophers, ethicists, religious scholars, and other such people will be discussing and debating for a very, very long time.
You are probably on board with the two Donald Trump assassination attempts.
Donald Trump attempts were caused by a crazed loon who had probably been watching too much MSNBC.
In the case of this Brian Thompson scumbag, I’d put him in the same catagory as Osama bin Laden - they caused death and untold suffering to thousands. At least Osama was doing it out of some (misguided) principles. Brian Thompson was doing it so he could have a big mansion and yatch and first class Europe vacations. Whoever his assassin is, is the seal team 6 for voiceless Americans.
But alas Marxist revolution is not the solution as socialist healthcare has its own baggage aplenty.
Would love RFK Jr’s thoughts not just on Big Pharma, but insurance industry as well.
I’m still betting the hit man was NOT doing this over unsupported insurance claims. Occam’s razor suggests the wife. Anyone who supports killing CEOs is a communist at heart, whether they realize it or not.
“This killing is something that philosophers, ethicists, religious scholars, and other such people will be discussing and debating for a very, very long time.”
I doubt it.
This should happen every single time a claim is wrongfully denied or delayed.
This punk-ass bitch was no better than some thug who shoots people while holding up a mini mart.

United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was one of several senior executives at the company under investigation by the Department of Justice when he was gunned down outside a Manhattan hotel on Wednesday.
Thompson — who was killed in what police called a targeted shooting outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown — exercised stock options and sold shares worth $15.1 million on Feb. 16, less than two weeks before news of the federal antitrust probe went public, according to a Crain’s New York Business report from April.
The stock price dropped sharply after the revelation that the DOJ was investigating whether the company had made acquisitions that consolidated its market position in violation of antitrust laws, a source familiar with the probe told the outlet.

Topline The suspected gunman who fatally shot Brian Thompson, the chief executive of private health insurer UnitedHealthcare, in Manhattan on Wednesday in what officers say was a “brazen targeted attack,” used a fake ID to stay at a hostel on the Upper West Side, multiple outlets reported Thursday.

Thompson was shot in the back and right calf outside of the New York Hilton Midtown just before 7 a.m. Wednesday morning and was rushed to Mount Sinai West in critical condition where he was pronounced dead, NYPD officials said at a press conference Wednesday.
A senior law enforcement official told The New York Times on Thursday the shooter used a fake New Jersey ID on Nov. 30 to book a room at an Upper West Side hostel he stayed at before killing Thompson.
The New York Police Department released additional photos of the suspect Thursday, which show most of his face and he appears to be wearing a green jacket, a black face mask around his neck, and a backpack.
Thompson–a Minnesota resident–was reportedly in New York for an investor meeting for UnitedHealthcare parent UnitedHealth Group, which was halted abruptly Wednesday after UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty said the company was “dealing with a very serious medical situation,” according to Bloomberg.
UnitedHealth Group said it was “deeply saddened and shocked at the passing of our dear friend and colleague” in a statement issued Wednesday, and said it was working closely with the police.

Health care and health insurance are two big messes.
How do you pay for someone who is REALLY sick?
They didn’t go out looking for that illness.
Yes, lifestyle can play a part, but not always.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can cost a lot of resources that some people don’t have.
Even if you took all this guy’s money, it would quickly get eaten up by just a couple of really sick patients.
The old method of treatment was, “Sucks to be you!”.
Stop using medical care as a substitute for family and friends.
Stop using medical care as a substitute for mental care and legal correction.
Make everyone pay for their medical care. Even if it’s just $10 a month. If they can’t pay that, then public works.
There are no easy answers unless you are a Democrat politician and steal money and make baloney promises.
I suppose you will be happy when private health care insurance providers go away and we have government provided single payer socialized medicine. Move to China and your desires will be fulfilled
I saw some quotes and pics from an interview with Brian Thompson’s wife and she seemed shockingly lacking in any demonstration of despondency. She was very matter-of-fact regarding threats she said the family had been getting lately.
My other concern is why would the CEO of a major corporation be walking around New York City at six in the morning unaccompanied by any sort of security detail? I have never seen this before. Most insurance companies who issue policies to boards of directors insuring key corporate personnel would be apoplectic about this kind of practice.

No, I will be happy when there is some legal or government oversight to these crooks who illegally deny claims and needlessly give legitimate claims the run-around. Average guys don’t have the resources and time to go into a legal battle with these well-lawyered companies who hire lobbyists to make sure the system is rigged in their favor. It’s when you don’t have justice from the system that people feel no choice but to go for vigilante justice.
The most unusual thing about this nationalized murder dominating the news is.............
Why has the left been so silent this time about the routine cry of “gun control” that this kind of thing ALWAYS triggers?
Tell that to his two kids.
I heard someplace that Brian Thompson and his wife had been separated for 2 years. Cant figured out if that is true.
The second we start making excuses for it, this nation is over.
Don't go down that road.
And God help you if you're not found to be included in the group that makes up the "greatest number". Thankfully, individual rights as stated in our Bill of Rights are not dependent on being a member of "the greatest number".
It could be argued that Nazi policies employed some aspects of utilitarianism. E.g., Euthanize useless eaters, kill Nazis-considered parasitic Jews and undesirables, etc.
It’s interesting that people seem to think there’a ONE guy responsible for all of a company’s policies; it doesn’t work that way. There’s an enitre board which makes decisions. People below them who supply data and advise the board.
It’s not down to that one man.
feeding the public the most gratifying explanations that require the least amount of thought & time — that’s utilitarianism
