Buc-ee’s are popping up all over America. It’s to the point that the beaver-emblazoned beacon is becoming a roadside attraction in its own right. Why? Convenience and cleanliness - the giant gas stations are known for having massive, ultra-clean restrooms. There’s also every kind of snack, sandwich and soft drink you could ever want all under one roof. It’s no surprise then that a Trump-hating writer for Jalopnik (yep, we never heard if it either) would call these shrines to roadside comfort and capitalism, a ‘sickness'.

Buc-ee's Is The Sickness At The Heart Of America
Buc-ee’s can be a little overwhelming. They’re crowded and hectic. Why? Weary travelers love them, so they’re a popular pit stop. Still, the positives the writer chose to ignore outweigh the negatives.

Jalopnik is left wing. You’ll find a smarmy anti-Must article in each new update. As such, I’d suspect anything technical coming out of that site. In addition, they seem to hate successful business enterprises.
For me, Bucc-ees is too big. When I’m on the road I only want to stop for refueling and maybe some food in a drive-thru.
Like many Freepers, this author did not read to the end of the Jalopnik article.
Jalopnik used to be about cars, now it seems to be anti-car, anti-Musk, anti-Trump, anti-…..
Same, I want the least traveled pit stop on the Interstate.
And, to think ... the original Buc-ee’s was just blocks from my sister’s house.
I would stop and pick up (the best!!) breakfast tacos, on my way to see her, or, on our way back home.
Bucky has to be rolling in the dough ... with his cash cow.
Good for him/his family!!
Time honored technique for failed and unread writers, trying to look good for their employer.
Pick something well loved and awesome, and write an article about how it sucks. Angry complaints and stories like this abound. Editor is supposed to see how many people read his erstwhile writer.
The gun magazine variation is to write an article putting forth the theory that the 1911 has no relevance in the modern world, or that only a moron uses a 30-30 for hunting today.
These joints must be banned at once!
They sound much too entirely nice for
pig-nazi Amerikkkns. (Like me.)
So, Jerwad, stop someplace else — or better yet,
stay home watch MSNBC and embitter yourself even
more.
You probably wouldn’t like fun if it bit you on your ass.
Re- “For me, Bucc-ees is too big.” I stopped at my first Buc-ees last month. It was early afternoon and I was overwhelmed at how crowded it was and the noise level of everyone talking. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed I don’t care as much for crowded stores and malls.
The next morning I stopped at another one about 9am and it was less crowded and I took a quick look around, although I only saw half of it.
Excellent price on gasoline, and they actually sell pure gasoline, along with the ethanol stuff. The food I bought was good and the restrooms were large and very clean. I will admit I bought a Buc-ees t-shirt for my daughter and granddaughter.
The author was awfully hard on the beaver. 😎
Buckees is not a rest stop, it’s a life style. 😉
The wife and I have the Buc-ee’s pit stop down to a science. We’ve been there for an hour to browse and shop and fill up a shopping cart with $100+ of stuff. We’re past that point. We now have this thing figured out.
Today we drove ~350 miles. Early on we passed the new Buc-ee’s in Smith’s Grove, KY (a couple exits north of the Corvette plant and museum in Bowling Green). Both the northbound and southbound exits were backed by 2/3rd - 3/4ths the way down the ramp.
Clearly this is a good time to NOT stop at Buc-ee’s. So we didn’t.
But on the outbound trip, we were there around 11AM last Tuesday. This was the one in Calhoun, GA. Buc-ee’s isn’t as new there (fewer locals checking out the new phenomenon) and highway traffic was much lighter. No back up on the ramp. So we stopped.
I drop the wife off at the front door. I proceed to a pump and top off.
She has our order figured out, goes in and gets our lunch (brisket sammy for me, Italian for her, split a cup of fresh chips and a package of pickles) and a few snack / candy items. After filling, I park at one end of the store where she will expect to find me. I surf FR for maybe 10 minutes before she appears. She hops in, we are on our way.
It’s all about having a system.
For me buc-ees is a no go.
If you don’t allow the trucks that keep America running in your massive 100+ pump station what’s the point?
That’s right. Buc-ees has a no tractor trailer rule.
I prefer kwik trip. Plus my truck isn’t frowned upon
I first experienced Buc-ee’s last month. Twice actually. Went to one in Georgia and another in Florida. Both were crowded as a Wal-Mart the day after Thanksgiving. Lines at the gas pump. A complete traffic jam. But yeah, the restrooms were clean. At least the one in Georgia had gas much cheaper than anyone else! There are no Buc-ee’s in my own area, so I won’t be patronizing another for awhile, if ever again.
They are not a truck stop. It can take 15+ minutes just to exit their parking lot during high volume periods. Now mix in big rigs to that traffic jam? Not a good idea.
I have beaver fever also Warren. You know the kind where people claim they need to use trees to make paper to ‘print’ news! All they are doing is spreading their falsehoods to earn money and kill trees! So what are you going to do about that Warren?
Jalopnik is a commie rag, plain and simple.
Too hard, I’d say. No wonder they lost the election big time.
