Note that the GOP threw Gaetz under the bus too. They are letting Trump know in no uncertain terms: "remember how we spend 2017 and 2018 blocking everything you wanted until the dems could take over the resistance effort after they won the house? We're doing it again."
The story is b.s. IMHO.
“ Would they even care if it was a democrat being charged?”
Dems didn’t even care when there was a president running for reelection with credible charges against him. No circular firing squads for Democrats.

Wait, a general’s (I assume the Post Commander was a general) wife was hanging out in bars? Picking up guys?
So was the incident report public record? I guess I am a little behind on this, how did this become public?
I agree a settlement is not a good look but I am also aware it’s a common scam. To defend himself could have been a lot more costly. It’s easy to say “oh he should nobly fight for years and spend tens of thousands and have the public knowledge of the charge if he is innocent” is easy to say but perhaps harder to do.
I don’t know that he is innocent.
I just know that if I was raped I wouldn’t take a settlement to shut up.
So the settlement tends to make me believe him. First thing I think if I am raped is not oh how much should he pay me not to prosecute? That’s not how a real victim thinks.
And yes, apparently.
Not at the O Club where she would be seen and known. In town.
It was quite the nine day wonder. Not that it happened but that she was so dang stupid about it. We figured that she was getting back at her husband for something. Or maybe she just was as dumb as a stump.
Thanks for the explanation.
It’s ridiculous that anyone in Congress can judge anyone else for any reason.
I believe that the last question on the White House background check form is something like: Is there anything else in your background that, should it become public, would, fairly, or not, reflect badly on the President?
If he was asked this question, and didn’t reveal the rape accusation, his nomination should be withdrawn by Trump.
That hasn’t happened, so hopefully it isn’t so.

One important issue receiving short shrift is Hegseth's apparent intoxication throughout the event. Haven't heard suggestions that he was roofied. Thus, with descriptions including his inability to walk unassisted to his hotel room, we are left to presume that mature adult Pete overindulged alcohol to extreme excess in a public setting.
This behavior presents security risk, indicates lack of self-control and blackmail issues. Bigger than a simple zipper problem.
Having seen the one or two programs Megyn Kelly’s podcast has devoted to debunking the accusations, it’s a little involved in coming up with a short summary, probably even this with Walsh.
Suffice it to say there are A LOT of problems with the accusations and an in-depth look at the police reports, accuser’s own statements, her husband’s statements, statements by uninvolved bystanders and videos of the hotel and bar, results of ‘rape kit’ tests (e.g., possible use of rape drugs). Kelly took the time to do the review and reported it in length.
Re: 53 - he’s going to have to explain the settlement in detail during confirmation, probably behind closed doors.
But agreed, he seems to have an issue with poor judgement and impulse control. Paying the settlement was the result of poor decisions he made that evening.
At one point during the incident, Pete and the woman were conversing loudly by the hotel pool. Hotel guests complained about the noise. Hotel employee comes out to inform them of the complaints. Pete responded heatedly with a comment about his first amendment rights. Eeesh.
Great. He might try reading the Bill of Rights.
This is the problem: Democrats don’t care what their own do, because they do not see the wrong in having sex all over the place with whomever. It is part of the socialist/communist plan to disintegrate the family and to provide a distraction.
However, the Dems do know that conservatives actually believe in things like marital fidelity and will say things like the candidate has a messy sex life so has lost moral authority to tale this position or that.
**This is how the Dems box us in.**
If you need an operation to save your life, do you care about the sex life of the surgeon or do you care about his or her skills and ability? Because I’ll take a philandering world-renowned surgeon over one who is not particularly good at the job but is loyal to his or her spouse.
Look how many Dems were known to be womanizer and yet that was overlooked... because they could do the job the Dems wanted done.
We need to be the same way of the Dems will roll over us with these allegations, founded or not
“This is the downside of the Gaetz withdrawal. It empowered and emboldened the liberal smear machine.”
This has been going on long before Gaetz.
Anytime our side gives so must as an inch it emboldens the leftist smear machine.
Then there are the backstabbing traitors within our own party such as senile collins, and fat cow murkowski who help the enemy every chance they get.
Despite the accuser saying she believed “something may have been slipped into her drink, as she cannot remember most of the night’s events,” surveillance video obtained by police showed she appeared coherent before and after the alleged incident, and she had “locked arms” with Hegseth while smiling. An eyewitness also told police she saw the accuser flirting with Hegseth.
In addition, a hotel worker saw the accuser putting her hand and arm on Hegseth’s back and leading him towards the direction of his hotel room shortly before the alleged rape occurred, and said that Hegseth was “very intoxicated” but that she was not. (Brietbart)
