I honestly can’t tell you the last time I watched “Saturday Night Live.” As a kid in the '90s, it was a weekly ritual. And then it just stopped being funny. The only thing worse than a skit show that isn’t funny is a skit show that isn’t funny and that is blatantly partisan in how it handles politics. And you don’t have to watch SNL to know that it has been rabidly anti-conservative for a long time now. When they do something particularly awful, you hear about it on social media.
Eight years ago, SNL reacted to Donald Trump’s victory with Kate McKinnon portraying Hillary Clinton singing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
This cold open made waves for being a major departure for the show, as it set a somber, mournful tone without even trying to be funny.
After Trump’s victory on Tuesday, I decided I’d have to see how SNL was going to handle Trump’s latest victory.
Of course, it was a heavy-handed attempt to mock Donald Trump’s 2024 victory, devoted to partisan fear-mongering far more than actual humor. Right off the bat, you knew it was going to be bad. The cold open began with four cast members standing somberly in a row, looking like they were at a funeral. It was clear at this moment that this was going to be worse than the Kate McKinnon skit eight years earlier.
The cast—and I have no idea what their names are, so pardon my vagueness—sets the tone by framing Trump’s win as “shocking and even horrifying,” clearly not even considering the fact that they may still have viewers who are happy with the election results. And considering the huge swing to Trump in 2024 over 2020, they may still, even if it's only a few. Instead, we got left-wing

Who watches SNL anymore? That show died a LONG times ago.
Seems funny to me.
The top-rated TV network has lower ratings than Amazon Prime and Netflix, and those are both dwarfed by ridiculous margins by social-media shows, including Joe Rogan’s. Hollywood now services only the far-left of America, and the decline of broadcast TV-based programming is so steep there’s no point even trying to build a conservative alternative.
SNL died many years ago as a humorous and edgy show. Now it gets by on life-support and by pandering to leftist viewers. Cannot name any single cast member from the last ten years.
In the next four years, Trump is projected to appoint around 100 federal judges. That will help to transform America. The SNL cast will be appointing zero federal judges.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, SNL.
They can be funny, if they want to be.
They finally made fun of Joe Biden and I thought it was funny.
Why now, though? 🤔
Was it sarcastic humor?
I’m old enough to remember when all the same celebs publicly pledged their allegiance to their savior Obama, and none of it was satire.
Stopped watching when they fired Norm McDonald for joking about OJ killing his wife.
If I remember right one of the big wigs on staff was a friend of the murderer, so couldn’t handle it.
Norm was funny - best Week-end updates in the history of the show.
I stopped watching SNL around 1980. The new cast member couldn’t match the previous ones.
Heavy satire.
Actually not a bad idea. Trump can take a joke.
Dana Carvey sharpens his Musk impression.
The Far Left is in its death throes and it’s a beautiful thing to watch.
The good news is that CNN, MSNBC, most of the TV networks are hemorrhaging losses as their ratings crater. If airports don’t renew their CNN licenses, CNN will cease to exist. MSNBC is also on the embalming table. What will the US do without Morning Joe? I’ll tell you: Whatever viewers are still dumb enough to watch his drivel are going to be happier and better informed by his absence.
This past week has been a good one...on many fronts.
Broadcast TV from the major networks is boring and unimaginative. Crime and medical dramas, lame sitcoms, left biased ‘news’, etc. At best I’ll get some football or other sports.
I can easily find entertainment on YouTube, or one of the many streaming services. To your point, the traditional networks offer little and attract less.

With wall-to-wall ads for Big Pharma, take those ads away and it all crumbles, it’s the only thing keeping them afloat.
When RFK Jr goes after Big Pharma, a big chunk of their advertising revenue will disappear.
It's hard to believe people can go through life being entirely miserable, but then we're seeing how the liberals have been reacting this past week.
IMO, the last time late night TV was funny was 2014, the last year Craig Ferguson hosted The Late Late Show. Whether you liked him or not, he rarely ever went political.
