Authorities in Onslow County, North Carolina have cleared a woman of any potential charges after she shot and killed her ex-boyfriend as he was attempting to break into her home while she and her two children were inside, ruling her actions a justified act of self-defense.
According to officials, 28-year-old Colton Bush had an active Domestic Violence Protective Order that prohibited him from having any contact with the woman, but on the evening of Sunday, October 8th he called his ex more than two dozen times while sending her dozens of text messages as well. The messages stopped shortly after 10 p.m. that evening, but it wasn't long after that Bush showed up at the woman's home.

On a video recording, the woman can be heard telling Bush to go away. Once he entered through the window, the woman fired five shots from a .380 caliber handgun. He was struck by all five shots.

It appears, however, that Bush was placed on probation and ordered to wear an ankle monitor after pleading guilty to breaking and entering and violating the domestic violence restraining order back in April. There's no way of knowing if jail time would have convinced Bush to leave his ex alone, but at the very least it would have provided some actual consequences for his actions, which might have influenced his behavior going forward.

Good shooting by the victim.
5 shots/5 hits ... better shooting than many cops!
All that time at the range can payoff. Five out of five to take the boy out.
.380 is a little light. Maybe she should get a 9 mm.
Well the .380 seemed to work.
” Law enforcement said at the time of the shooting, Bush was trying to break into Floyd’s home. “He goes to a residence. He used a screwdriver to try to get into the residence, is unable to do so. But then, goes through a window at which time she shot him,” D.A. Lee said.”
What a nice guy. I’m sure he was about to turn things around…
His behavior going forward has definitely been influenced. ARF!
Yep!
Fool Around and Find Out.
Being shot five times seems to have persuaded him.
The best gun for a woman is the one she is comfortable with and can handle well. I’m small. I’m not quite 5 ft tall and weigh less than 120 lbs. My hands are small and I don’t have a lot of wrist strength so I’m limited as to the size of gun I can handle. This woman did extremely well under stress and hit her target with every shot. I’m impressed.
Good grouping too!
It wouldn't.
But five slugs did.
Sorry you had to kill him lady but you can sleep easily now.
Came here to say the same thing - lady doesn’t need any range time 😉. Perhaps some lessons on “waste not, want not” but I’d hedge on giving her a pass.
In truth, a .22 semi-auro would be perfect for basic home defense - will go through most all clothing, not overly difficult to handle or fire, and the .22 round stays in the body on a center-mass shot, doing much more damage than a “through and through” round would.
Truthfully, i would prefer a 20 gauge shotgun round, but for a diminutive person such as yourself the action and recoil might be a bit much.
One of the weirdest EMS calls I ever ran was a guy whose wife left him so he gets liquored up and goes to her parents home where she is and kicks open the front door. They all run to the master bedroom and lock that door. She tells him if he comes through the door he’s getting shot. First round from a .44 special goes over or beside his head. Second goes right by the sternum but he must have been ducking and rolling because it goes shallow and doesn’t tear anything up severely enough to kill him on the spot.
So we come through the door past wild eyed cops running out the door unable to answer if the scene was even secure to find the guy who is now quite sober, alert and oriented, laying on the floor in a small pool of blood, talking with a.44 entrance wound in the center of his chest.
It did the job and lots of women don’t want to hold a heavier firearm or pull the extra tension on the spring to rack the slide. For that matter a .22 LR can kill you.
So obvious, but still, too many fail their daughters.
Hold mah beer while I crawl into this here winder
This is a great example of common sense gun control. She had the common sense to pick a caliber that she can control. ;'}
