I learned a great lesson this weekend. Just ONE teaspoon of the CORRECT ingredient can make ALL the difference when you are cooking. In this video I revealed how just ONE teaspoon made an ENORMOUS taste diffence in the Char Siu Chinese ribs that I air fried. I definitely learned to respect the knowledge chefs impart and follow the recipe instructions EXACTLY for the best results.

PING!
I like to cook.
I like new recipes.
I absolutely despise video only recipes.
Good catch...used to order this type of ribs as an appetizer..been years since I’ve had them. Totally can’t wait to make these!

So, which ingredient was it?
The baking soda and soak?
It’s tough to pull the ingredients out. I agree. I did one video recipe for a cauliflower/broccoli risotto that my friend used to make by the handwaving method. I’ve never made it without playing her video in the kitchen as I go, though I use chicken broth instead of bullion cubes. She’s gone now, so it’s also a wonderful way to be with her for a little while.

Vicky works without measuring and plays heat like a piano
Oh, but I miss her. We had cooking house parties every major holiday either at our place or at hers. Friends would come from across the country. Those were the best of times.

MSG. The best. Ask Uncle Roger.
Too funny.
I’m doing test recipes today for 2 different final versions - hot, and VERY hot - of mango habanero bbq sauce, and it will literally come down to a 1/4 teaspoon...

Powdered chicken bouillon.
The baking soda and soak?
No but that is what you do first. The baking soda cleans the ribs and after a half an hour wash them off at least three times. I think I did it five times because I definitely don't want the baking soda taste in my ribs.
Try clicking "more" in the description below the video. Trust me. It's there.
Thanks!
