I have been listening to Gregory Aldrete who is a historian on ancient Greece and Rome. Recently he was on Lex Friedman podcast #443 and he also has multiple lecture series on ancient history which are available on Youtube. Multiple times he discusses the uses of propaganda, character assassination and hyperbole to disparage your opponent.
The Democrats did a great job of using these same political tactics in the 1964 Presidential election when they produced a TV ad showing a little girl getting blown up by a nuclear bomb as the inevitable consequence of electing Barry Goldwater. The Dems still understand these tactics when they effectively attack Trump today.
So the question is - Why does Trump and the GOP seem to be going easy on Kamala Harris? I would like to get some feedback from my fellow Freepers on some political messaging ideas that I have:
1. A Pro-Trump PAC should make an ad posing the question “How did Kamala Harris rise politically?” this text fades out to show the silhouette shadows of Willie Brown standing and Kamala Harris on her knees.
2. Taking a page from 1964 Dem ads, we should have an ad showing a multiracial family with an infant and a toddler playing at the park and their bodies turn on screen into skeletons enveloped by a nuclear mushroom cloud…this then fades into the text “Will all Americans be dead due to Kamala Harris provoking nuclear war with Russia?”
I have a few other ideas for political ads and I would love to hear your ideas. I do know that playing hardball works and the GOP is NOT playing hardball, yet.
Da__ right he should, that would also set him apart from the wimp gop.
If we’re emulating Rome we would have taken Capitol Hill by force on Jan 6.
Depends on how he defines hardball.
Yes, the GOP should play hardball when appropriate. And that particularly applies to the many Republican slugs in Congress.
But I don’t think either of your two ad suggestions would work. They would energize Trump’s base. But I don’t think they would sway undecided voters. And that’s the key.
I’m seeing ads on YouTube attacking Kamala for supporting Biden’s disastrous economic policies. They show Kamala laughing, and saying how great Bidenomics is. Then they show average folks complaining about inflation.
These kinds of ads might not be hardball. But I think they’re the way to go.
I think that the attack shoe be two-pronged. On should attack her on her do-nothing VP, especially as the border czar and the other should portray her to be the candidate that wants WWIII.
Yes, 100% hardball, but “the silhouette shadows of Willie Brown standing and Kamala Harris on her knees” is as likely to cost votes as it is to win votes. Men already are overwhelmingly voting for Trump, he needs to win women. You can scare them into voting, perhaps, but not shame them.
Harris is going to put men in your little girls bathroom, and cut your boys penis off is a better direction.
I fear you lack respect for the historical effectiveness of vicious negative attack messaging that has worked for 3 millennia.
i really like you ad idea saying that under Kamala your boy’s penis will get cut off.
Perhaps if we emphasize that Willie Brown was married an Kamala was the home wrecker then that would be more inspirational to female voters?
Oh, and one addition to my post #5. I’m also seeing ads attacking Biden/Harris for being soft on crime. These ads are edgy - they have victims of crimes committed by illegals describing in detail what happened to them.
Those kinds of ads would sway an undecided voter. Surprisingly good work by the GOP there.
Don’t need to go after her for sleeping her way up..
That will just alienate some women who are open to Trump.
Plenty of real issues to bash he on no need to go there
Trump is not perfect - no one is except our Savior Jesus Chrit!!!
Listen to what Pastor Hamrick say about our coming Election.
women care more about their husband getting fellated by an ambitious female than about nuances of tax policy
Get away from the personal attacks. she and A-WOLs have given Trump and JD tremendous ammo on the issues flip-flopping and avoiding the press
Stay away from the name-calling her ideas are communist , but don’t call her one. You get the same message across without the name-calling also stay away from responding to celebrities They have millions of followers even though they’re totally effed up.
just leave them alone stick to the issues.
You don’t need to play hardball when you have a 50 percentage point lead over your opponent.
The fact that Kamala slept her way to the top is well known and baked-into the current voting preferences. Those who support her don’t care.
The votes that are up for grabs - independents/undecideds - won’t be influenced by hearing stuff they’ve already heard. You need something like they did to Mark Robinson that mgiht blow her out of the water, so to speak.
I don’t know what it might be - maybe the ABC News whistleblower’s allegations that they gave her the questions before the debate? But that really is more about ABC than Kamala.
Sigh, have you ever watched women in groups in your life?
They can call one of their own a slut any day of the week but the minute a man does it they will gang up on him even if they don’t like the girl.
Taking. This tactic would basically be an act of desperation, and Trump is far smarter than this.
You really want to focus on infidelity when Trump is your nominee?!?
Stupid to its core
On item #2 the dems and MSM have had years to project an authoritarian image of Trump. So if you asked a lot of independents and undecideds (that’s who is left to influence) who is more likely to get us into war I suspect more would say Trump than Kamala. Not fair obviously but image matters. So your #2 may not be effective.
Nothing wrong with a viscous negative attack. But only if it works. But only if it results in a net gain of votes.
I’m old enough to remember those 1964 Democrat attack ads against Goldwater. Vote for Goldwater, and you are voting for nuclear war!
Those attacks worked, mainly because we were just coming out of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Heck, schools were running air raid drills. Folks were scared.
Thanks to the idiocy of Biden/Harris, nuclear war is still a possibility today. But most voters don’t see it. They’re way more concerned about inflation and crime.
Just my two cents. (And thanks to Biden/Harris, two cents isn’t worth much anymore.)
And one more thing. Even though we disagree a little here, your original post is nevertheless important. The GOP has lost many an election by being too meek. I guess the key is finding that perfect balance.
“Kamala was the home wrecker”
Yes, I think that would be much more resonant.
