The destruction of college football appears to be complete, a QB from Holy Cross who was a multi-year starter and put up great numbers running and passing, decides to transfer to UNLV to play his final year at a higher level of college football. UNLV is 3-0 to start the season with a big Mountain West Conference game scheduled for this Saturday, the transfer QB decides to QUIT and hints promises about his NIL payments did not come thru, by quitting before the 4th game the player preserves his Red Shirt year and can transfer to another school to play next season.

Stop this joke of calling them “student athletes”! It is ridiculous.

Call them what they are—professional football players.

If they made promises they couldn’t keep, I don’t blame him.

Matthew Sluka’s only responsibility is to do what is in the best interest of Matthew Sluka

Just make minor league football leagues and be over it.

It’s just awful what they’ve done. I actually thought it was funny when my OU boys lost last week. They deserve it.

Mike Gundy is one of the few coaches to call a spade a spade.

I understand that and I have no problem with that. I only have a problem with calling them student athletes.

They no longer go to one school, they almost all transfer to whatever school they can get the most NIL money. I would do that too,

More power to them. But don’t pretend they are just students, they yare professional athletes.

I’m sure all his teammates feel the same way, he could have finished out the season, filed a lawsuit and if promises were broken collect on the damages, the school would likely settle to avoid the bad PR of going to court.

Now he’s known as a quitter which makes it really hard for him to be accepted on another team.

The bowl games are also a total joke now.

Most starters refused to play in bowl games last year, afraid they might get hurt and lose their ability to transfer to another school and lose their NIL (or pro) money next year. They are professional athletes, period.

He did the right thing.

I mean, look at what happened to Brett Favre when he made that announcement the other day.

Football is a business.

As I understand it, they promised $100,000. They didn’t make a single payment, so he got a lawyer and threatened to sue. They came back with an offer of $30,000, and he said goodbye.

I agree. Football is not just a business, though, it is big business.

The top level coaches make between $5 and $10 million /yr.—more than some CEO’s.

“So much for amateur sports after High School.”

College football players deliver value to their schools and should be paid accordingly.

For the lack of $97K, UNLV has destroyed player recruitment for years.

We don’t know the entire story; I doubt anything is in writing from now on for protection of both parties these NIL deals for transfers and recruits need to be in writing.

Bingo! Powder Puff football has for years been rougher than college or NFL.

Why did he wait to quit at the 3rd game of his last year? Too late for the NFL and will have to wait college football out. Sure, money is money but smells like something more. Is he at least going to graduate in the spring or is he going to mess that up, too?
