Why Americans Should Consider Giving Up Their Guns: 18 Good Reasons (the stupid it burns alert)
Only Earthlings ^ | August 12, 2024 | Mary Apurong

Guns have been a hot topic in America for a long time. Many people feel strongly about their right to own firearms. But lately, more and more folks wonder if it’s time for a change. The news is full of stories about gun violence, and it’s scary to think about what the future holds.

In this blog, I’ll share 18 reasons Americans should consider living without guns. These points come from research, expert opinions, and a study of how other countries handle gun laws.

Reduce gun deaths

Fewer guns mean fewer gun deaths in America. This includes accidents, suicides, and murders. Countries with stricter gun laws have much lower rates of gun violence. Giving up guns could save thousands of American lives every year.

Safer homes

Homes without guns are safer, especially for kids. There’s no risk of children finding a gun and accidentally hurting themselves or others. It also removes the danger of guns being used in domestic violence situations. Families can feel more secure knowing the house has no deadly weapon.

Less violent crime

Criminals often use guns to commit crimes. Without easy access to guns, many crimes would be less deadly or might not happen at all. Police would feel less threatened and might use less force. This could lead to safer streets and communities for everyone.

Improved mental health

The fear of gun violence takes a toll on mental health. People worry about mass shootings in public places. Kids do scary active shooter drills at school. Getting rid of guns could reduce this constant stress and anxiety. People might feel more relaxed and safe in their daily lives.

Better police-community relations

Police in America often fear that anyone they meet might have a gun. This can make them more likely to use force. In a gun-free society, police could approach situations with less fear. This could lead to calmer interactions and more trust between police and communities.

Safer schools

School shootings have become a terrifying reality in America. Without guns, this threat would disappear. Students could focus on learning instead of worrying about their safety, and teachers wouldn’t need to prepare for the unthinkable. Schools could be places of growth and learning, not fear.

More peaceful protests

Protests can turn dangerous when guns are present. Armed protesters can scare people and escalate tensions. Without guns, protests would be more peaceful. People could express their views without the threat of deadly violence. This could lead to more productive discussions about important issues.

No more accidents

Hundreds of Americans die each year from gun accidents. These often involve kids finding guns at home or making mistakes while hunting. Without guns around, these tragic accidents wouldn’t happen. Families would be spared the pain of losing loved ones to preventable gun mishaps.

Better world image

Many other countries find America’s gun culture strange and scary. Giving up guns could help America look better to the rest of the world. It might lead to better relationships with other nations. The U.S. could become a leader in promoting peace and safety globally.

Money savings

Gun violence costs America billions of dollars every year. This includes medical bills, court costs, and lost work time. Reducing guns could save a lot of money. These funds could be used for schools, hospitals, or other things that help people.

Safer recreation

Activities like hunting would become less dangerous without guns. People could enjoy nature without the risk of hunting accidents. New forms of target shooting sports could develop using safer equipment. Outdoor enthusiasts could feel more secure knowing there’s no chance of being mistaken for a game.

More effective law enforcement

Police spend a lot of time and resources dealing with gun crimes. They could focus on other important issues in a society with fewer guns. It would be easier to identify real threats when guns are rare. This could make law enforcement more efficient and effective.

Safer public spaces

Guns make domestic violence situations much more deadly. Abusers with guns are more likely to kill their victims. Removing guns from homes could save many lives. It could give victims a better chance to escape and get help.

without worry. Public spaces could become more relaxed and enjoyable for everyone.

Reduced domestic violence severity

Guns make domestic violence situations much more deadly. Abusers with guns are more likely to kill their victims. Removing guns from homes could save many lives. It could give victims a better chance to escape and get help.

Better emergency response

When guns are involved, first responders must be extra cautious. This can slow down their ability to help in emergencies. Without the threat of guns, paramedics and firefighters could act faster. They could focus on saving lives without worrying about getting shot.

Decreased political tensions

Gun rights are a very divisive issue in American politics. Removing this issue could lead to less political fighting, allow politicians to focus on other important problems, and help bring people together instead of pushing them apart.

Improved workplace safety

Workplace shootings are a sad reality in America. Employees sometimes worry about angry coworkers or customers with guns. Without guns, workplaces would be much safer. People could focus on their jobs without fear of gun violence.

Better mental healthcare

Right now, a lot of mental health resources go to preventing gun violence. In a gun-free society, these resources could be used differently. Mental health professionals could focus more on treatment and less on risk assessment. This could lead to better overall mental healthcare for everyone.

"The law-abiding citizens will have no guns. The thugs and the hoodlums will have all the guns they need." That would make a good bumper sticker

Think again Mary

The genius of the 2A is what makes America exceptional. The world envies our freedom. Why are millions of illegal aliens streaming over our border? Not just for free stuff.

Not me. I’m for mass deportation. But American freedom is the biggest prize for an illegal alien.

“Why are millions of illegal aliens streaming over our border? Not just for free stuff.”

That may have been true 10-15 years ago. Now it’s all about the free stuff, at least for 95% of the critters. The ones who care about, and respect, America’s freedoms are the people who come in legally.

I recently read that 60% of the gun owners in the U.S. are either not registered to vote or are registered and don”t vote. They better wake up...

Yup...I saw that. I want a gun for two reasons and only two reasons.

Not for hunting (I don't hunt) Not for personal protection (rightly or wrongly I don't feel I'm in danger of personal violence)

First:I want a gun because I want every person in this country who draws a government paycheck to know that I am not helpless if the government goes crazy.

Second: I want a gun because Rat Party Headquarters doesn't want me to have one.

It's that simple.
