Teaching in China and making over 30 student-teaching visits he would need to have some pretty good connections with the CCP to be allowed to do that.
No doubt indicating he is still bowing to the CCP. Heck - might even be code. “Send more money”.

Not necessarily. Lots of people to China to teach English and the visa is easy to get. There is a huge market for English language tutoring in China and many Americans, Brits, Canadians, Australians go there for six months as sort of a working vacation. I’ve people who’ve been in China teaching English for years.
That said, the number of trips looks a bit weird.

It’s called United Front Work group which is obviously associated with.
He ran a student exchange program which can’t be done without working directly with the chicoms.

[Teaching in China and making over 30 student-teaching visits he would need to have some pretty good connections with the CCP to be allowed to do that.]
More demand than supply for native speaker English language teachers. The pay is low by US standards, lack US benefits, so it really is a little like a religious mission. Schools are likely grateful anyone signs up to teach, roll out the red carpet. They can’t match American pay packages or pensions, so they make up for it by being super accommodating, and by hiring people not certified to teach stateside.
Another way of putting this? Literally any random American can teach English in China. The principal requirement is having a pulse. Retired, with time on your hands? China’s English language departments beckon.

[Considering moving to China to teach English as a foreign language? You’re not alone! Figures from recent years show that up to 400,000 foreign nationals were working in China as English teachers. With great job opportunities for those with or without experience, competitive salaries, amazing job perks and the chance to experience an entirely different culture, it’s easy to see why when people are choosing to move into teaching English abroad, they’re choosing China!]
The pay isn’t great - $3K a month, but housing, sometimes expat grade, is often included. Many cover air fare.

Walz uses the deeper bow version of namaste that’s Chinese. (Contrast with the one the Tibetan monk uses). Actually a lot of culture China prides itself on is originally from India.
