And it costs just $55,000!
That’s why they’re putting them in very high end EVs ,LOL
Game changer? It costs 3-4 times the already high costs of the batteries for today's failures.
If you want an EV that's OK with me, but I own a Chevy Impala, V-6, runs like a top, and fills a tank of gas in less than 5 minutes.
There are gas stations on every corner and I have not run out of gas since I was a stupid, young buck back in the 60's {and I bought a quart of beer instead of a gallon of gas, both cost twenty five cents and I only had a quarter}. OPPPS
Can’t have the Proles driving around all over creation for free.................
I have also found several sites reporting this news, some with more technical and financial details (concerning the SSD and silver-based claim). If true, this is truly a game-changer for the precious metals (silver), EV, auto, and oil/gas industries...
The problem with EV’s has been three-fold:
1. Range
2. Charging time
3. Infrastructure
At 600 miles, this solves problem 1.
At 9 minutes recharging time this solves problem 2.
Number 3 is the elephant in the room and the thorniest of problems.
Generating the power currently involves primarily coal and natural gas plants. Because physics is physics, you are shifting the burning of fuel from the car, where emissions is controlled, to the power plant, where it is less so. Because of inefficiencies in transmitting the power and converting it into motion, it takes more fuel to power an EV than it does an ICE. We do have about 20% of our power coming from renewable sources, but that doesn’t quite overcome the inefficiencies.
Distributing the power will require an upgrade to our grid with estimates of $2 to $5 trillion dollars required to enable 80% of our vehicles to be electric.
Converting gas stations to charging stations will be very costly. Unattended charging station has been prone to vandalism and are inherently unreliable. The solution is, of course, to have charging stations monitored, much like gas stations.
Until we get the infrastructure addressed widespread adoption of EVs is going to be hamstrung.
Interesting. So far, mostly talk-talk.
Will decide later if it belongs in the same bin as Rossi and his LENR gizmo.
Lots of anti green and climate change rhetoric leaking into public sources of late. For instance ford backing off their EV mandate along with Volkswagen and the reduction of Atlantic expected hurricanes and a recent decline in Atlantic Ocean temps (still high though). Any way, the trend is your friend.
Charging/Range Anxiety will be the world largest mental illness if the environmental nuts get their way
No mention of price or charging station specs. You probably need 1000 amps at 240 volts. Forget about charging at home.
We are a long way from mini nuclear reactors. One probably unsolvable problem is security.
If it wasn’t for new battery technologies no one would have a phone in their pocket.
“600-Mile Solid-State EV Battery...”
Gonna require a helluva wheel base.
If you can’t charge at home, forget it.
What would the charge time be for this at the current high end up scaled charging set ups that currently cost EV customers many thousands to install?
and, can those consumers count on their local grid supplyi ng their very expensive charging station with sufficient juice to operate at peak?
Let’s not forget who built phones a few years ago that exploded and caught fire in people’s pockets prompting a Total recall.
>> Look at the number of gas stations in your town, then imagine the number of new substations that would have to be built to construct an equal number of charging stations.
Think of all the copper that can be stolen for scrap!
Ahhh.....but it ME who likes the way YOU think.
Wish there were more of us.
The unspoken objective of the EV lobby and the America-haters who support it, is to get the mass of population out of their personal vehicles and back into/onto bicycles, buses and other mass transport. This idiotic technology will only be accessible to the elites due to never-ending infrastructure support costs especially when wedded to governmental and political prohibitions which will outlaw the gasoline engine. These people do not believe anyone has the right to unbridled freedom which is what ICE technology and the US auto industry have given to everyone in America for over one hundred years.
They should be using their superior intellects instead to find a way to solve the tremendous auto insurance industry ripoff being perpetrated on honest drivers who are being forced to pay for the losses caused by the masses of moronic idiots who drive without insurance and in a lot of cases without licenses either. All thanks to local prosecutors and judges who have de-criminalized these practices calling them victim-less (really) crimes and economic crimes and refusing to enforce the laws against these horrific practices people are being allowed to literally get away with every day and night of the week on our roads and streets and highways.
600-Mile Solid-State EV Battery, Charges in 9 Minutes so why buy the current outdated EVs that they have now , EV industry destroying itself ,LOL
No need for concern: EVs are immune to the laws of physics. Magical, really.
