The CDC director job hasn't required Senate confirmation, but that's going to change beginning in January 2025, thanks to a provision in the recent omnibus budget billopens in a new tab or window passed by Congress. On page 3,196 of the 4,155-page bill, it states that the CDC director "shall be appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate." Page 3,203 notes that this provision will take effect on Jan. 20, 2025.

One option is to simply fire every single interim CDC Director until no one is left at the CDC.
The guy who I like to see get some consideration for this job or Fauci’s old job is Dr. Joseph Ladapo the Florida Surgeon General, he was fantastic during Covid and has been a voice of reason since.
I think they would! How to they give up the money from pharma? Can the GOP attach a reversal of this to Must Pass legislation?

My recommendation (which won’t happen): Only pick a CDC director who has gone through the CDC’s EIS (Epidemic Intelligence Service) program. That will determine whether they are actually a public servant or merely a bureaucrat.
