Donald Trump’s supporters claimed Rod Stewart’s recent bout with strep throat is “karma” for mocking the former president’s complexion.
The “Maggie May” singer took to Instagram Wednesday to announce that he was “absolutely gutted” to cancel his 200th Las Vegas residency show hours before he was due on stage.
“I’m desperately sorry to miss this 200th show celebration,” Stewart, 79, wrote.
“Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me. I’m absolutely gutted. I’ve been looking forward to this concert for so long,” he continued.
“My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused.”
While many fans wished the Grammy winner a speedy recovery, some seized the opportunity to troll Stewart after he made fun of Trump, 78, during a concert.
“Love u Rod but seems you got karma from your orange comment🤷🏻♀️ #wakeup,” one person wrote.
“No worries Rod since you’ve politically come out of the closet. TRUMP 2024,” another commented.
“I thought this was going to be an apology about Trump! #disappointed,” a third posted.
The backlash comes days after the British musician poked fun of Trump while performing onstage in Las Vegas.

He and Rachel Hunter were at Bradley’s years ago on Palm Beach and bought $5K worth of drinks for the house. Seemed like a cool guy. And she was outrageously gorgeous.

I went to a Rod Stewart concert 18 years ago. I wouldn’t go again. It’s time to push back on all of these celebrities and singers and stop watching professional sports. They are a thing of the past.

I don’t particularly like him as a person, but that’s a silly old rumor. Why would they have to pump his stomach for ingesting sperm? Makes no sense at all. I remember hearing that crap in middle school.
