I missed that. Can you cite where it says rotating crews?
I did not think non-boomer submarines had two crews. I blanched when I read that tour duration.
I would whine about a 6-8 month deployment during peacetime with port calls. Now I feel like a wuss.
But if true, Gen. Blather’s point is a good one. I hope to hell that isn’t true. If we were in a hot war, of course that would be a completely different thing.

“We have demonstrated the versatility of SSGN [guided missile submarine] platform to operate anywhere at any time,” said the Florida’s Blue crew commanding officer, Captain Peter French. The submarine has Blue and Gold crews which alternate operating the boat.

Blue and Gold. They swap crews at regular intervals. My guess, and it’s just a guess since i didn’t bother to read the whole thing, is that the 700+ day deployment refers to the boat only.
Still-a 700 day deployment even for a piece of equipment seems excessive to me. I personally don’t understand how a vessel like that could go that long without dockyard work. I understand that there are huge backlogs for sub maintenance, so perhaps it is either let them sit tied up to a dock, or steam them.
But I freely admit I don’t know what the dockyard schedules or work requests look like for submarines.

Nuclear subs routinely go two years without going into a dockyard.
On our WestPac tours we stopped in Guam for maintence supported by a sub tender.
Also at our Yokosuka Naval Facility.
So, they would have a crew report to base A, and then turn over at another base with team B? So, the ship is deployed, but not all of the crew?

Had to look those acronyms up.

I wonder how one class performs “strategic nuclear deterrence” wo/ a nuke or two on-board?

On my first SSN weekly op after just reporting I had to bunk in the torpedo room. I still remember the radiation signs on the warheads next to my body.
Sort of, but there are 2 full crews, one designated "Blue", the other "Gold". They deploy with a full crew, then swap crews during an inport period, during which they perform maintenance. While the Blue crew is underway, working 12-16 hour days, 7 days a week, the Gold crew is getting some time off, doing shore based training and generally living a pretty normal life.
Nothing like snuggling up to a warm nuke for a good nap.🤪
