James Piereson is a political scholar and analyst for the Manhattan Institute. He recently wrote a column comparing Kamala Harris to failed 1988 presidential candidate Michael Dukakis, but one of the most fascinating parts of the column is a passage where he predicts the outcome of the 2024 election.
Piereson writes at The New Criterion (bolding added for emphasis):
[Kamala Harris is now enjoying this kind of moment as she racks up endorsements in anticipation of the Democratic National Convention in August. Democrats and media allies are busy portraying her as a fresh face (she is not) and a youthful candidate (also doubtful) who will electrify the nation, galvanize women and minority voters, and trounce Donald Trump in the fall campaign…
The honeymoon will not last very long. Trump will succeed in painting Harris as an out-of-touch San Francisco leftist, much as Bush portrayed Dukakis as a Massachusetts liberal. Trump will find plenty of running room with that campaign, as there is hardly a left-wing cause that she has not embraced…
Notwithstanding the euphoria today, Trump will win the election by six points—forty-nine to forty-three percent—winning 339 electoral votes, including all of the so-called swing states, plus the Democratic-leaning states of Virginia, Minnesota, and New Hampshire. Republicans will pick up three or four seats in the Senate and perhaps twenty seats in the House, giving them safe majorities in both chambers. This will give Trump the margins he needs to implement a good piece of his agenda in 2025 and 2026.]
This column is currently one of the most read articles on Real Clear Politics and for good reasons. Piereson makes some outstanding points based on history and research.

Neither do the narrow-minded Freepers.
They are frantically scrubbing her record and even her ranking which had at just about the most leftist radical in DC.
But luckily we have you to always remind us. :)
Amen. Pray......
.........
People have not figured out some things, and at the top of the list is
Trump is not going to implement an agenda. $36T means nothing can be done. Shut the border? Probably. Deportations? Only of those who were going to have their cases run thru the delays and have it happen anyway.
Ukraine? There will be no more money going there, and he’ll try to intercept some already approved. A Russian friendly gov’t will return to Ukraine, just as it was pre 2014. The killing will stop, Russia’s troops will leave everywhere that has not already voted to be a part of Russia, and the media will celebrate this as a victory of sorts. Their troops left!!!
Taiwan? They will get no priority. And with no Bolton to screw up the process, he may just get North and South Korea re-unified.
All else depends on who he can get installed. Knowing they must have NO Washington background.
As of now his lead is what it has been for 9 months nationally — about 2%. It takes 3-4% Dem lead to move the battlegrounds.
I think Trump would win many more electoral votes in a fair election.
One approach Reagan and others used successfully in 1984 that Trump can use but ‘88 Bush could not, is to constantly repeat the whole ticket that the VP is attached to.
In 1984, we often heard of the “Failed Carter-Mondale policies”. In 2024 Trump will likely be talking about the “Failed Biden-Harris policies”.
They are a team. Make her own it. As long as Biden dodders along in the big chair, she cannot distance herself from him.
Her posistions already being shown in ads.
I think that we have a better chance in NM than NH.
The deep state failed with their assassination attempt and hopefully they will fail with the election steal.
I think the Trump team is already doing this which is smart.
Good plan. “Failed Bide-Harris policies”.
Oh and remind them that the government has lost track of 100,000 minor “migrants”, more dead Americans from drug poisoning than died in Korea and Vietnam, etc.
If we can prioritize dead Americans and kids in slavery, sexual or otherwise, over sexual perversion Trump should win.
If baby killing and mutilating kids win well then maybe we shouldn’t be a nation in the first place.
This election generally boils down to genitalia IMHO. It’s stupid to think so yes, but why else would people vote for four more years of Biden policies?
Is she on her knees or her back?
Trump looked us all in the eyes and made a solemn promise during his acceptance speech that he would never allow what happened to us in 2020 to ever happen again.
Do you not take his word?
KSTP TV (ABC Affiliate in Mpls-St Paul) released their Survey USA Polll tonight.
They show Harris leading Trump by 10 points - a four point increase over their last poll which showed Biden up by 6 points.
Per the poll, Harris grew her strength among women, suburbanites and Independents.
Of course, I could see movement towards her among women who reflexively want a woman in the White House and among suburban women who hate mean tweets. But the increase in suburban support for an empty pants suit like Harris is concerning.
This Presidential race (IMHO) will be won in the suburbs - suburban Atlanta, suburban Richmond, suburban Detroit, etc. We can’t win those suburbs like Reagan did in ‘84 but we need to increase our showing in those areas.
Deus Vult!
