Free speech is an absolute right. Anyone should be able to say any opinion they hold regardless of how distasteful, offensive, scary, obscene, etc...
However, you are also responsible for the speech.
If were to say, "I hate redheads.", that may be offensive to some but it is my opinion and should be legal. Same thing if I was talking about blacks, jews, muslims, etc....
If I were to say, "I wish all redheads would die."... same scenario.
If I were to say, "I wish someone would kill that particular redhead." That MAY still be legal. However, if someone were to hear my words and be motivated by my specific call to a specific action, that should be handled differently. That should be considered incitement and my words should be punishable.
If it is determined that the shooter heard specific calls for Trump to be killed from social media, celebrities, entertainment etc... and followed through with those instructions, the speakers of the words should be held legally accountable.
Back in the day, if I heard Hitler was a threat, and majority evidence supported it, I might go after Hitler.
And If I got him I might be a hero who ‘saved the world’.
But I will still have to answer to God.
Same for today. A person killing a politician, say, is responsibile for murder.
Those who incited him should be called out, and suffer from their peers/society.
But this requires the rule of law, which has disappeared.
And the murderer and the inciter still have to answer to God.
No, it doesn’t.
If the crime is going into the Capital or attacking police or breaking windows....Trump never said “Go into the Capital, fight police, break windows.” To the contrary, he told them to be peaceful.
“Free speech is an absolute right. “
Take it back a step: what is a right?
You’re barking up the wrong tree, friend. Have a nice day.
We need to preserve the purity of the first amendment. Absolutely and without question!
We were in a rush to protect ourselves from the Islamic terror threat right after 9-11 and we ended up with the Patriot Act which is now being used against presidential candidates, presidents, hundreds of thousands of Americans, which includes the suspension of American civil liberties, etc. etc. And it will not stop.
The system that was supposed to prevent the Patriot Acts abuse failed and it will continue to fail.
Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.
No more government intrusion. The government has proven that you cannot be trusted.
No. Only if someone threatens to kill. Other than that you are on the slippery slope that is right beside the one that is labeled Hate Speech.
If it is determined that the shooter heard specific calls for Trump to be killed, Lavrenti Garland will bury the finding and try to destroy those who found it, to protect his morally bankrupt cult and his completely amoral boss.
You know, rhetoric such as "It's time for Trump to be put in a bullseye" just five days before he was.
Democrats hve been inciting violence against Trump (and others) for a long time, and Trump isn’t the first. They’ve done this for over half a century that I’m aware of.
“It’s time to put Trump in a bullseye” is clear and deliberate incitement.
Calling for Trump to be “eliminated” is clear and deliberate incitement.
And If I got him I might be a hero who ‘saved the world’.
Which is exactly why the regime keeps calling Trump Hitler.
It is liberals who hate free speech.
Example” Yahoo is now having trouble allowing any comments for many articles, saying ‘Retry’.
Or they outright reject.
