This could really shake things up in Atlanta.
As the clock ticks closer to Thursday’s presidential debate pitting former President Donald Trump against President Joe Biden, a report is circulating that Trump could be springing a big surprise on his Democratic opponent.
And upending the presidential campaign in the process.
NBC News reported Tuesday, citing sources identified only as “people familiar with the situation,” Trump could be revealing his running mate before he and Biden even take the stage at CNN headquarters.
Trump has previously said he would reveal the name of the individual he’s chosen before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, which begins July 15.
But that timetable might have changed considerably, and Trump is now considering a “curveball” that could knock Biden off his already-unsteady feet.
“People familiar with discussions about a pre-debate announcement had differing views about Trump’s leanings,” NBC reported.
“One said he is eager to fill his ticket before he squares off with Biden. Another source said he would like the opportunity to throw a curveball to distract Biden before they meet but understands that such a move could create logistical and political complications.”
Any news report is only as credible as its sourcing, and anonymously sourced reports should always be treated with a grain of salt.
But there’s no denying a Trump announcement on a running mate would be a headline-grabbing move that would suck up the oxygen surrounding the Atlanta faceoff.
It would be a national story. It would put Trump on top of the news cycle. And it would almost certainly set his opponent back a step.
In short, it would be exactly the kind of move Trump has been making since he came down the escalator at Trump Tower in 2015 to announce his bid for the presidency.

I figure there’s only a 10% chance he’ll announce VP at a debate. He wants it to be part of The Main Event with thousands of supporters screaming and applauding, and there’ll be no audience at the debate. The Convention, if he’s not in prison.

I don’t think it was easy to learn. But having learned it sure helped me out through the rest of my life. Two classes that were most valuable to me: Latin and Personal Typing.
A better curveball would be Justice Cannon tossing out the Mar a Lago documents case and holding Jack Smith accountable. Then Trump can use a persecution defense against the moderators.

That might be popular within the narrow confines of Free Republic which probably account for no more than about 15% -20% of the US population. But I can tell you this: most average Americans outside our amen-corner echo chamber silo who don’t like a quitter, why that would probably ruin his chances for election right there, at least it would give incredible fodder to the Sleepy campaign to call him a “chicken” and they will be endlessly on that narrative til kingdom come … No, no backing out now, he signed on the dotted line and if he retreats now he’s going to look very cowardly by most Americans no matter how he explains it away. That’s what the majority of my relatives and friends would think.

We wish it! For as long as I can remember, presidential level debates started no earlier than September. They’re up to something here, and the ONLY thing that I can think of is that want Biden to flop, and then have someone else take his place during the Convention (like Newsom, Skunk Cabbage, or Michelle), while they can still get that name on November ballots.

I agree they are up to something, but I don’t see any way Jill would willingly allow them to sink and replace mush brain. She wouldn’t let the real Joe within a hundred miles of Atlanta unless she was confident in the “cocktail”. Either that or they have a double.
