What’s great is that they got that highly dangerous streetsweeper muzzleloader off the streets and out of the hands of children who might otherwise rod a liquor store.
What’s really great is that some guy offloaded his rusty old rifle and hopefully put the money toward ammo or a new gun.

The action was would not move, and being the kinda guy who knows how to clear stoppages in Spanish-American War era machine guns, he quickly cleared it, and pulled the trigger to verify it was functioning properly. Whereupon, the 6mm Lee-Navy cartridge he had just fed into the chamber, after decades, or generations, of being lodged on the bowels of the machine gun, fired.
There is good reason you ALAWYS treat a firearm as loaded, until you have personally verified it is not.

I think I’m going to disagree.
With a muzzle loader, it’s quickest and probably safest just to discharge it in a safe direction with a safe down-range target.
All that manipulation with the ramrod just increases the chance of an accidental discharge, one now with an additional projectile (the rod) in the barrel.
That’s why I like my in-line rifle with a removable breech plug—it can be safely totally opened and inspected for chamber and barrel contents, and emptied out by gravity (and then with safe rodding, if needed). Then clean it before storing it away.
I hope I’m using the right words to describe this (I’m just doing this off the top of my head, it’s been a while since I looked up the exact terms).
Gun safety means gun destruction.
