South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) is at the center of a controversy following a report from The Guardian about her admission in an upcoming book that she shot and killed her family’s 14-month-old hunting dog, Cricket, and a goat after a series of aggressive incidents.
The book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward,” paints a stark picture of the hard choices Noem has faced in her personal life and political career.
In the book, Governor Noem describes a troubling incident where Cricket, a wirehair pointer, displayed uncontrollable behavior during a hunting trip, leading to the dog attacking chickens and attempting to bite Noem.

Also find this vignette very troubling.
Watching my very frisky 6 month pup sleep now, having trained her from puppy biting behavior …but still a cat chaser. Some working breeds adapt easily to the sport, and also as companions, others is one or the other. Early socialization is key. Professional training. Breed rescue and rehoming. Biting humans is unnatural and stems from trauma at human treatment.
Shooting a 14 month old dog that is biting because it is afraid of the owner….very troubling
She’s not an idiot and she’s not anorexic - other than that, your comment is spot on.
Correct.
What she did was political suicide given Americans sentiment about dogs and actually writing about it is incredibly stupid for person who has obvious national political ambitions. Americans love dogs and draw insights on political personalities and conclusions on suitability for office based how politicians relate to and treat their dogs.
How politicians treat their dogs is actually a remarkably accurate insight into their personality and suitability for office .
In retrospect - witness Mitt Romney and his dog on the roof story which seems to perfectly describes his personality and predicts his governing style that we have come to recognize and despise.
Same with Ted Kennedy buying Porteguese Waterdogs and naming them with Chappaquiddick references perfectly showcases arrogance and above the law attitude of that sociopath and his petty, in your face penchant for contemptuously rubbing the noses of voters alarmed at his contemptible and cowardly behavior in the negligent homicide of a helpless woman in their faces.
Then we have Barak Obama's cynical acquisition of a dog as a media prop when he arrived at the White House. The poor dog was used for media "human interest stories" to make Obama and his bizarre family look like caring and normal human beings - which they were not. Obama and his family disliked the dog and neglected and abused him he when he was not useful ad a media prop
And of course, Biden's serial adoption of vicious dogs who terrorize Secret Service members and White House staffers.- perfectly describes the character for the Biden sociopaths personality and the way he runs his administration as well.
So, while I can respect cold blooded ruthlessness in a politician, I tend to like to see that ruthlessness properly directed and moderated. Noem's behavior does not appear properly directed or moderated and her behavior and memorializing the event goes directly to judgment and how to work problems at the correct level.
I could care less what she does in her private life, but she would be a disaster for Trump as VP.
Strong people take care of their own problems.
Weak people hire it out.
Sadly same here. People often dump sick, old or injured dogs in remote areas. Several have had Parvo.
Having owned and trained lot of dogs even professionally.
There are some dogs that are not worth the trouble and should be put down.
There is no shortage of dogs.
Not all dogs are worth the time and trouble.
They have no idea of what the realities of life in the flyover states are like and have been since the settlers moved west.
She’s finished.
People know that.
so basically she loves trans athlete over her own dog.
should’ve pick a better breed like pitbull, no one cares about pitbull except chet. pitbulls are probably bad hunting dogs.
thnx
Couldn’t recall who to give the hat tip to
Many tales about dogs (wild ones, neighbors and mine) dealing with livestock. It’s called “Life”
Agree. All in here for Noem, in hopes that she learned a lesson from backing down to corrupt corporate pressure not to ban trans from girls’ sports in both HS and college.
As I understand it she gave the dog three warnings before she finally put it down? And to the news guy who questioned her actions she stated, “That’s one!”
It’s reminiscent of the left calling 18-19 year-old adult criminal gang members “children” when deceptively inflating the number of “children killed by guns” by including them.
Kill your dog. Don’t kill your baby. 65% of our evil country disagrees with that.
Ha—yes!
NBA teams like the Boston Celtics are trying to increase the age for juvenile legal leniency through age 20:

“ Even though her decision was probably correct, you have to “read the room.” This “backlash” was utterly foreseeable.”
Right.
But did I read the story may have been out there years ago?
She was trying to get out ahead of it so it didn’t come up and blow up when political operatives might find it in the heat of a big election?
“panty wastes”
