How many of you guys carried a pocket knife every day, every where? In our case, they were essential tools, not weapons. I had a Schrade Walden, Case, Old Hickory, and Victorinox at one point or another during my childhood. Old habits die hard. Today it’s a spring assisted Kershaw that clips nicely to my pocket. Highly illegal in NYC, but quite normal in rural America.

The difference that Idris is overlooking is that knives as a rule only cause serious injury when wielded with criminal intent. You can’t take all the knives away, and crims are gonna crim, so knife attacks (in a sense) are inevitable. Stabbing someone with a knife already is illegal so what’s the point of making it illegal-er?
Pit bull dogs, OTOH, maim and kill people simply because it’s owner/keeper was careless or overindulgent or underestimated the danger the dog posed.
Eliminate all the pit bulls in (formerly great) Britain and few would notice. Eliminate all the steak knives and everybody would notice.

If I remember correctly, he wasn’t allowed to use a table saw in school after that.

What's an "XL bully"?
A fat shamer?
A 6" tall 3rd grader?

Seems harsh; after all, he still had nine digits left.

Seems harsh; after all, he still had nine digits left. Meaning he could still demonstrate how not to use a table saw to nine more classes...

“My 7 yoa grandson loves knifes.”
I built a forge and started forging knives when I was 14 (1964). Finally made my last one this year but I’m still fascinated by them. I remember my first pocketknife, a Davy Crockett.

I like to say that the easiest way to distinguish humans from baboons is that a human always carries a knife and a way to make fire.

The old Westerns are nice.
I collected them and had about 50.
Only have 4 or 5, now, but they're my favorites.
