We in NW need vit D most of the year...and office workers especially need it.

we

;-)

But I disagree re "most of the year": Roughly late October through late February, weather being the primary variable.

Above the 36 parallel you can't absorb Vitamin D from the sun. Checked: sun must be above an angle of 50° from the horizon in order for UVB to penetrate the earth’s atmosphere. Other wise it bounces. Which you need 20 to 30 minutes of sun exposure in the early afternoon. Check your area. (Enter your lat/log/time) (note: Miami Florida January and February is under 50 deg)

—> you probably get the normal dose you require. It’s the winter months that you need that ‘extra’ boost.

… but there is no way to know if it is enough without a blood test.

Again, depends on the weather. Obviously during wet weather Oregonians (we) don’t get much Sun. It’s also defeating due to temperature.

The cited example I gave about the energy boost for 2 weeks was from working in late-morning Sun in April for only 2 hours with just bare arms.

I just use the rule of thumb that if my shadow is shorter than I am tall, then I’m getting UVB.

Magnesium: Magnesium aids vitamin D metabolism, and high vitamin D doses can deplete magnesium levels. Adequate magnesium is vital for effective vitamin D use.

This cannot be overstated.

Love the detail, but really? We get immediately chastised for not taking in VitD “naturally” via exposure to sunlight?

Oh, kiss my Arshe! What the ‘Ell is someone supposed to do in the midst of winter in the north? Run around naked in the sunlight until something freezes off?
Bloody idiot.

FYI, older skin does not process sunshine into vitamin D as well as it did when younger.

Vitamin D in diet is there, but the minimum levels that were achieved from diet and sunshine when young stop being achieved with the same diet as when young because that second sunshine source fails.

And so, ingest concentrated form. It’s not guesswork. You can see the blood levels elevate with the supplement.

True, although there’s a over-the-counter vitamin D test selling (guess a couple of them). My wife bought one to ‘test’ on both of us...we had an adequate amount by it’s standard.
