A cargo ship that crashed into the Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge contained a large quantity of hazardous and inflammable materials, the chief of a US investigative agency said, citing primary investigation details.

Jennifer Homendy, the head of the National Transportation Safety Board, said the ship was carrying 56 containers of hazardous materials, weighing a total of 764 tons.

A senior investigator "was able to identify 56 containers of hazardous materials. That’s 764 tons of hazardous materials, mostly corrosives, flammables, and some miscellaneous hazardous materials, class nine hazardous materials, which would include lithium-ion batteries," she said at a news briefing.

The cargo ship MV Dali, with 22 Indian crew members, crashed into the bridge on March 26 after the vessel lost power and became uncontrollable. Six people died in the incident, with four bodies still missing and presumed dead.

The NTSB, responsible for civil transportation accident investigation, has launched a "massive" investigation into the incident, which will involve "many different components", said Homendy, adding that the probe could take up to two years.

The top official noted that the bridge lacked redundancy, unlike the preferred method for building bridges today.

“The bridge is a fracture critical. What that means is if a member falls, that would likely cause a portion of, or the entire bridge, to collapse, there’s no redundancy. The preferred method for building bridges today is that there is redundancy built in, whether that’s transmitting loads to another member or some sort of structural redundancy. This bridge did not have redundancy,” Homendy said.

A massive crane has been deployed to clear the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Officials were still surveying the damage.

The 764 tons of hazardous materials were probably old computers, TVs, batteries, etc. that were off to China to be recycled. By 12 year old kids burning the rubber and plastic off of the wiring and melting down the circuits. To save the environment.

A big surprise awaits, as stuff is discovered on, and in, the bottom of the channel:

Many years of things dropped overboard and into the channel, going back past World War I.

Many years of items that people dropped off the bridge - including stuff that the Baltimore Police will probably be able to associate with at least 10 mysteries.

Bearing the above in mind:

1. The ship just happened to crash into a bridge where the whole thing falls down when you hit one part.

2. The bridge to Baltimore harbor is key to shipping so many items the US needs. along with so many other issues make you wonder.

3.Like the anchor catching just in time to swing the ship into the bridge.

4 The ship sitting over a gas pipeline.

5. Hazardous material on board.

6.Was the ship ever used for child smuggling and a few other issues?

You gotta wonder if it was all coincidence!!

Good luck with that the maintenance history alone of the Dali is a disaster right down to the last moment before the crash where they pulled the tug boats away to save money.

If Dali owners are not responsible who is.

They need to be bankrupted for every dime they have and then some.

Of course if this is a three letter op I doubt there will be any problems for the Dali.

Also on another thread claims are being made that the dali builit in 2015 was under lease to Maersk and may not have had a bad service record. this may well be one of those stories that has no end,its looking like it already.
