Remember the WNBA? The women’s basketball league the NBA started to draw more women into watching basketball? In it’s inaugural season, the WNBA finals drew 2.85 million viewers, when the Houston Comets won the first of their four championships.
It’s never reached those heights again, and the Comets folded in 2008. There was a mild uptick to 728,000 viewers last year.
So you’d think the league would welcome an exciting, highly skilled new breakout player.
You’d be wrong.

Sheryl Swoopes, a former WNBA star (and failed college basketball coach) has been bad-mouthing Clark vigorously, to the point of propagating false information about Clark’s college record. How representative her opinion is relative to that of current players is hard to say, but I’m unaware of any of them telling Swoopes to back off (it took a black male commentator to do that).
I beg to differ. Google her name and watch the highlights.
Still when I look at her play I keep thinking to myself. She only needs two things to make her a total rock star...

The NBA, now, has a hedge in case the men screw up their league.
Neither league, NB or WNB, is attractive to me.
Too much disrespect on the floor, heading towards NFL shenanigans, for me to watch or enjoy. “Tribal,” is a word for what goes on after every play.

I have watched about 5 of their games. And watching tonight. She must shoot a lot to get the points. She makes a lot of 3s. However she is not selfish in the mode of Kobe and others or forced shots rather than passed. She passes when someone is open. In fact Iowa looks good moving the ball around. Not impressed by their D or their rebounds I pick them for final 4. She can play pro if she wants. Point guard because of her passing and 3s.
The WNBA would be ridiculous to not take advantage of her popularity.
South Carolina will sweep the march madness and they are already touting their recruitment class for next year 104-3 last 3 years.
