It might have made things more difficult because we would be a multilingual country.

Probably because there were many Mexicans living there.
The American Southwest annexed by US after the Mexican war was basically empty of people.
There were like 20,000 Spaniards in the whole area.
They all were offered US citizenship and preservation of all their properties. The few ones who decided to move to Mexico were paid for their properties.
But further south there were too many people, and this plan would not be feasible.

So the US conquers all of Mexico. Then what. Does it create a perpetual army of occupation and colonial govt? 1850 America is decidedly anti Catholic. How does it deal with ruling a decidedly Catholic people? The areas ceded in Treaty of Gudalupe Hidalgo, while vast, were decidedly underpopulated and Mexicans became minorities very quickly. This doesn’t happen if we take all of Mexico or even the lands wished for by Pres. Polk.

I read an article that disclosed the majority of inhabitants in Greenland would vote to join the USA and leave Denmark, if given the chance.

Also, most of the maritime provinces would leave Canada to become new states of America.

Actually, we Catholics are very nice people...

Had we seized the rest of Mexico, we would likely have been welcome, compared to their very discriminatory culture of elite landowners and very poor peasantry. They would have gained our Constitution and representative form of government and freedom for the first time.
