The time for them to fight that battle was before the special counsel was appointed.
Under normal DOJ operations, a prosecutor who declines to prosecute a case simply walks away from it without any comment. But the internal DOJ regulations governing the appointment of a special counsel specifically require two layers of reporting by the DOJ …
1. The special counsel must issue reports on the matter to the Attorney General.
2. The AG must submit a report to the Judiciary Committee leadership in both Houses of Congress upon completion and closure of the matter.
These dumb bastards in the Democratic Party have given President Trump plenty of documented support to get the entire set of DOJ special counsel regulations thrown out entirely.
