The local ABC affiliate said Columbus Day has become a divisive issue given the role of Christopher Columbus in colonizing the New World.
One middle school in the district actually held a workshop titled, “Columbus: Hero or Villain?”
Local Republicans called the decision disappointing and shocking. Others called it an insult to those who served in the military.
“One word: DISGUSTING to describe Stamford Connecticut,” one angry resident said. “The very backwards, ignorant and obvious communist school board has CANCELLED both Columbus day and Veterans day. The reason? They needed more school days for teaching. WHAT????”

A shorter holiday break in December and elimination of Spring Break would also be useful. Both are leftovers from an older situation, and would require teachers and other government employees to actually work instead of getting so many paid days off. Those folks had enough days at home during COVID to hold them over for a long time.
Look for Eid Al Fitr Day and LGBTQ...Day, coming soon to a school calendar near you
Good. They can teach about these days and interview veterans in their family and give a report.
You beat me to it. Awhile back I looked for a 2024 calendar that didn’t have the Muslim holidays on it. I suppose such calendars exist. But in my brief search I couldn’t find one.
So it’s only a matter of time before the Muslim holidays are added to a school calendar.
“Students will still celebrate two Muslims holidays along with Gay Pride and Black History Month.”
We didn’t get either off when I was a kid.
NYC has already had Eid Al Fitr Day for a few years already. And they recently added Diwali. Can't remember if they have the commie made-up holiday of "kwanzaa". Reading daily news stories, you'd think every day was LGBTQ Day, too.
I suggest that the holidays in mid-January and mid-June also be eliminated to allow for more days to TEACH MARXISM in Stamford Connecticut!!!!
MORON Board Members.
The filthy leftists hate the military and the Europeans who founded this country.
We never got Columbus Day off when I was in school. Columbus Day is a very “back east” thing, west of the Mississippi nobody really cares. I don’t remember for Veterans Day but I don’t think so. Oddly enough last year my work decided that being closed the week between Christmas and New Years was a “problem” so they got rid of those days from the holiday schedule and gave us “make up” days scattered through the year, including Columbus Day and Veterans Day.
This is not about inclusion. It's about stamping out opposition to their deviancy.
I’d guess a day someday will be called Illegal Immigrant Day.
We didn’t get either off when I was a kid.

The day off is not for the students, but the teachers.
There were no teachers union when I was growing up. In fact all school districts were local (not state controlled like today). Children actually had a chance to learn something (as discipline was enforced with the “board of education”)
Why Veteran’s Day?
Serving in war was another benefit of white privilege?
Jewish holidays have been on calendars forever and nobody gets those off.
Columbus Day in the South wasn’t much of a thing when I was a kid - we went to school. Veterans Day wasn’t an out of school day either.
Hey, it’s the “Constitution” state.....LMAO...whadda ya expect?!!!! /s
I miss school assemblies where we sang patriotic songs.

This stuff is Nimrata “Nikki Haley” Randhawa’s legacy.
Her pusillanimous conduct in the face of the enemy, as Governor of South Carolina, fertilized the ground in which grew “Cancel Culture”.
