“Russia withdrew from Kharkiv region”

“Yes, they got their butts whipped.”

It was not only Russia’s biggest battlefield loss since WWII, it was also the complete rout of their Premier tank force, the 1st Guards Tank Army (Guard of Moscow).

The majority of their tanks were abandoned and captured intact by the Ukrainians (Russia remains the biggest single contributor of tanks to the Ukrainian Army, from this defeat).

As the Russian tanks ran out of fuel retreating and were unable to refuel, crews abandoned them, and took cars and bicycles from the locals to keep fleeing.

1st Guards Tank has not been the same since. They reconstituted with a bunch of poorly trained mobniks and old vehicles out of storage, and are now a third rate unit, a shell of its former self.

Sabotage!

Kyiv Independent reports:

“Railway tracks in Russia’s Saratov, Yaroslavl, and Nizhny Novgorod oblasts have been targeted in sabotage attacks, Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) reported on Jan. 17.

“Unknown opponents of Putin’s regime once again burned several relay cabinets on the railway” and other parts of the track used for military logistics, the HUR said.

The agency shared a video compilation of what appeared to show multiple arson attacks on relay boxes and other parts of track infrastructure.

As a result of the reported sabotage, railway traffic on certain track sections was “paralyzed,” according to the HUR.

While the HUR did not state whether it was involved in the attacks, a number of incidents on Russian railways have been linked to Ukrainian intelligence services in recent months.

In November, the HUR claimed responsibility for its role in a joint operation with local resistance that disrupted trains in the region around Moscow.

Ukrainian media also claimed in late November and early December that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out two sabotages on the Baikal-Amur railway in Russia’s Buryatia Republic.

The Kyiv Independent has not independently confirmed these reports.

Russian Railways reported that 14 freight train cars were derailed in Russia’s Far East on Jan. 8. The day before, there were reports of explosions at a railway track by an oil depot on the outskirts of Nizhny Tagil, an industrial city near the Urals.”

New video of the T-90M getting wrecked by a Bradley’s 25mm cannon.

https://twitter.com/GloOouD/status/1747741801451045078

The “explosion” that some people thought might be an ATGM was just the T-90 deploying smoke grenades.

Just take Russia’s money. Cost drivers should be bill payers.

The Guardian (UK) reports:

“Britain is ramping up pressure on western governments to use $350bn (£275bn) of frozen Russian assets to help rebuild Ukraine’s war-shattered economy, with David Cameron insisting there were legal, moral and political justifications for action...

Speaking in Davos, where Ukraine has been high on the agenda at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, Lord Cameron said: “When Putin launched this illegal invasion, the world changed, and we have to change with it and recognise we are in a more dangerous, uncertain and difficult world.

“We should be prepared to do some innovative thinking about how we use these resources to help Ukraine...

...Cameron said the moral argument was straightforward and strong. “At the end of the day, Russia is going to have to pay reparations for its illegal invasion, so why not spend some of the money now, rather than wait till the war is over and have all the legal wrangling about reparations”...

...Bill Browder, CEO of Hermitage Capital Management and longstanding Kremlin critic, said the possibility of Donald Trump winning the next US presidential election should spur policymakers to move speedily.

“Donald Trump has said he is going to solve the Ukraine crisis in one day,” Browder told an event at Ukraine House in Davos on Wednesday. “What does that mean? He is going to cut off Ukraine from funding.

“I would argue, putting aside all these niceties, that confiscating the $350bn is Donald Trump insurance,” Browder added. “It needs to be done before the US election, so that if that were to come to pass, Ukraine can carry on defending itself and win.””

Can anyone explain why Russians abandoning their tanks
1 seem to leave every hatch open
2 don’t destroy them to keep from capture, esp in Kharkiv goodwill gesture

“seem to leave every hatch open”

RuZZia’s version of the US Open Door Policy?

No one brought the key to lock the hatches?

RuZZia thinks Fat NATO soldiers can’t fit through the hatches to get inside?

” “Propoganda” is screamed a lot these days, but for me terms like racist and white supremacist. Are just buzz words now for people to say we hate you, but can’t refute what you say”

>>>>>>>>>>>

You got that perfectly right.
The term “racist” is spewed out to anyone uttering something conservative. It’s a trick used by the woke and uber-aggressive cancel-culture (maybe unwittingly inherited by Mao’s little Red Book?). It’s an attempt of demonizing and overwhelming an opponent to such a degree that he becomes in many cases unable to respond - he becomes an outcast.
It just kills the debate. End of discussion.

Habit, because they always keep them open except when they must close them?

Having no intention of coming back and indifference to leaving it open or closed?

They perhaps want to assist in making sure the tank is totaled by drones?

They are all in a hurry and the last guy out is in no less a hurry than everyone that is already running or hiding?

“In the video, we learn that the real Russians are actually Ukrainians, and the country that calls itself Russia is really Moscovia.
So no longer use the appellation ‘Russia’ when mentioning the vile people to the north, call them Moscovians from Moscovia - which is not only historically true, but an insult to their self image.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>

Indeed.
Actually I often used the term “Kremlinists” when referring to the ones who abuse their power in Russia. The ones hiding in their ivory towers pressing buttons, not caring about their own people (and others people even less).

But talking about Russia more generally... “Moscovia” is a more accurate word.
I learned something interesting here today.

Moscovian arty losses are likely significantly higher, as many of those losses are far behind the front lines and hard to count.

Yes, I hope you’re right.

I like Ansel’s last three in post #108. Ring true to me.

They are just focused on saving their own goat-smelling butts.

There have been cases where they park in the open with the hatches open to invite drones (while they camp at a distance). Once their vehicle is destroyed, they get reassigned (hopefully away from the front).

leave every hatch open

Russian tanks doe not have AC. Open hatch is the only way to ventilate heat.

lol agreed, but when running away and abandoning your tank ac is no longer an issue. Just have found it fascinating that they don’t care, or as some have suggested they want them destroyed…

Reminds me of the first tiger1 captured in north Africa. A shell splinter had jammed the turret and for whatever reason they did not try and retreat… they also did not destroy the tank, something they were taught to do. Maybe they were afraid of being prosecuted for destroying a valuable asset, perhaps they thought it could be recovered not sure, but there are plenty of examples of Germans destroying their own equipment to keep from being captured intact

It is a well known fact by now that a simple grenade tossed into one of their tanks or apvs will most likely result in total destruction, and we know the Ukranians are good at repurposing left on the battlefield equipment

As I understand the muskovites are still the single largest contributor to Ukrainian equipment fleet, precisely because of this interesting behavior .

The intel gained from this one event was important to the allies, they got a wake up call on German capabilities, likewise many valuable pieces of Russian equipment like EW, air defense, comm … have been captured intact as retreating muscovites did not destroy them in their haste.

One of the little discussed features of this war is what the west has learned about their technology and capabilities. Nk missiles being fired in Ukraine is something of an intel win as well. I am sure SK is very interested in that data

The full video that savage sage does on this is quite informative, and i appreciate the depth he goes into.

Of course this will be discounted and called propaganda, obviously because it hits the mark

The video of the old Russian woman saying all Ukrainians should be ******** and as she is walking away asked about Poles and says the same of them

Good insight to the psyche of muscovites and many here on FR
