Maine begins paying rent for homeless migrants

BRUNSWICK, Maine (TND) — Maine has begun paying rent for homeless immigrants living in apartments located in the town of Brunswick.

The state budgeted nearly $3.5 million to provide 60 migrant families in Brunswick with two years of rent. Maine expects the immigrants to “gain the means” to pay housing costs through state “support” and “guidance.”

The state is also supplying $100,000 to dozens of Brunswick migrants for a year’s worth of asylum application and work authorization assistance. The legal support seeks to ensure immigrants receive work approval “as soon as possible” so they can “provide for themselves,” reduce pressure on public programs and help local economies by joining the workforce.

The Brunswick apartments’ planner, Developer's Collaborative, estimates it has constructed 24 one and two-bedroom residences so far. Brunswick Human Services Director Deb Crocker believes the move has been somewhat challenging for the migrants.

Question: If the gov’t in Maine can pay illegal immigrants’ rent, why can’t they pay the taxpayers’ rent...seems only fair.

"Maine Maine's taxpayers has have begun paying rent for homeless immigrants living in apartments located in the town of Brunswick."

Fixed it. And could add "without their consent".

Talk about your basic wealth re-distribution! too bad the voting public couldn’t do something about this.

A little “life enrichment”. Welcome to the party, pal! See if you can get that bass turd, Stephen King, to pick up the tab.

Maine will LOVE this. Especially when things turn South, and hard times hit. Nothing like giving social benefits to attract voters.

The requirement to have a SPONSOR is still on the books, I had to sign over my income and assets for 10 years to guarantee my wife would not be a burden on the Taxpayers.

NOTHING Prevents a State from passing Legislation declaring the Federal Employee’s in their State as the LEGAL SPONSORS of these Aliens and ATTACHING THEIR INCOMES AND SEIZING THEIR ASSETS TO PAY FOR IT.

Damn shame how all of the New England states have gone over the edge with preposterous policies like this.

This makes me so angry.

I worked my TAIL off to take care of my kids as a single mother. YES, I took medicaid & welfare, YES, I took Section 8! I also went to college (didn’t graduate due to illness) and took a part-time job.

I got OFF Welfare just as quickly as I could. I even left my state - alone with one of my kids - because my friends were looking for ways ON to public assistance and I was looking for ways OFF and I didn’t want to learn how to get lazy. I really could have used some help - I didn’t even ask my parents, although my mother would babysit for me sometimes if I got stuck between work & school.

We all need help from time to time, don’t we? But there were restrictions and conditions to whatever help I got from the government and for every dollar I earned, the government took twice that amount away so I could never get ahead.

Where’s the help for people who have worked for every single thing they get and for those who are born here & could use a leg up so THEY could get a job, afford some kind of home - legally?

I could go on but what’s the point? I’m feeling some 4-letter words inching towards the surface. This is infuriating.

Someone today questioned how setting up US taxpayer paid EV charging stations cost so much money. $7.5 billion. A few thousand stations, one in operation so far.

And now the state of Maine taxpayers are supposed to pay “nearly $3.5 million to provide 60 migrant families in Brunswick with two years of rent.”

Outrageous. 60 families?

I remember President Gerald Ford helping to end the recession by the US paying $50,000 each (administrative and planning costs) for some unemployed people to each have a guaranteed $10,000 per year job. May as well have tossed the money to them in cash.

Printed money and bloated government debt used for undemocratic, selfish and immoral ends

They are steadily destroying the faith in US currency, and ultimately, the US Dollar.

Well, so long as it's the government doing it and not the taxpayers, I guess it's OK...

Yes, this is sarcasm...
