"School Choice Undermines Democracy" [semi-satire]

This week, American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten assailed school choice for "undermining our democracy. Giving parents the option of selecting which school they want their children to attend introduces an unwarranted variation in what these children will learn. Disagreement and disunity are the inevitable outcome."

"First of all, parents aren't qualified to judge what constitutes a good education," Weingarten argued. "The public schools have a uniform curriculum that is designed to ensure that every student receives an equal education free of the prejudices and misconceptions their parents seek to ingrain in their children."

"Second, those running alternative schools lack the teacher training required of public school teachers," Weingarten added. "All manner of extraneous, contradictory, and irrelevant topics and methods may be used to divert students down paths leading to irrational religious piety or anarchic individualism instead of learning the collective values necessary for living in our modern democracy."

Weingarten admitted that "shutting down the public schools during the pandemic may have been a mistake. Many parents need a place to send their children during the day while they work to earn a living. Alternative schools that stayed open filled this need. We must learn from that mistake and ensure that in the future no options outside the public school system are permitted."

People are getting good at reading the seams of the ball as Rush would say. Randi Weingarten is panicking at the drop in public school enrollment. Not to mention dismal achievement test scores are back in the news.

“undermining our democracy“

There’s that phrase again. We know now that phrase is the radical left’s dog whistle.
