Around June of 2023 Gianna Novello decided to give shooting a shot. The native of north Jersey wasn’t looking to become the next Lara Croft, or dive too deep into the world of becoming a shootist, it was just something she committed to wanting to try.
Novello went through some basic steps with her boyfriend on how to handle a firearm, then made it to the range. Novello’s story starts with her being uninitiated in firearms, to five months later owning three handguns, and having a valid New Jersey permit to carry. That’s a remarkable story. Coming from N.J., her deep dive into gun ownership is beyond fascinating. The most notable thing about Novello’s story is learning to do all this with only one hand.
Novello does not consider herself “disabled.” Her condition is congenital, and she’s never allowed it to hold her back. When chatting with the Generation Z gun owner, I quickly realized that her arm ending where her wrist would begin on her left hand became a motivator, rather than an anchor that drags her down.
“Okay, I’m going to refer to you as ‘differently abled,’ if that works for you?” I said to Novello. She was fine with that description. I told her she needs to guide me on making sure I’m not being offensive – which I excel at from time to time, and there was no need to double down on her original sentiments.
“I’ve never considered myself disabled because I’ve never really gone to the doctor and asked them to really clarify what I have. I don’t really think it’s a disability. But I do think I’m different than everybody else, obviously. And I do things differently.” – Gianna Novello

That’s why it’s not called a handsgun! Good for her, hope she doesn’t have to use it but if she does, to use it a lot.
I see no reason why one can’t fire a pistol one handed.
Can even change mags one handed (return pistol to holster the remove and replace mag in holstered pistol)
What, they didn’t just tell her, “Ma’am, statistically, you’re more likely to shoot yourself with that gun than you are to protect yourself with it.”
No, it's because you're shooting a Hi Point!🤪
Actually, don't know if it's a Hi Point. Sorta looks like one.
Gun empties
Release the magazine
Back in holster
Slide in new magazine
Tough to swap the magazine in the holster, often it covers the mag release mechanism
More qualified than Alec Baldwin.
The right to keep and bear arm.
About 20 years ago "Gun Tests" did a shoot out between a Baretta carbine, an Olympic Arms carbine and the Hi-Point carbine. The Hi-Point beat the Baretta and tied with the Olympic Arms. The Hi-Point was 1/4 the price of the Baretta and 1/2 the price of the Olympic Arms carbine.
On You Tube there are a pile of videos that start with, "I want to hate this gun, but..."
Hi-Points have a life time warranty, regardless of how many owners had it. I was the third owner of a Hi-Point carbine that was one of the first made. I paid almost nothing for it. I shot it about 300-400 rounds until it stopped. I shipped it back and they sent me a new one. My first one would shoot a 1.5 inch group at 25 yds using Winchester white box. The new one shoots about 1 inch at 25 yards.
Yes, they are ugly. They are not guns that get passed down through the generations. But they work and are priced very reasonably. Great for people that are on a tight budget.
But you are right- they are ugly.
But, seriously, they are, usually, reliable and if it's not, they fix it. For the price, I think there are preferable options, but if it's all that I had, I wouldn't feel unarmed.
I won't say it is the ugliest gun ever invented, but it is a contender.
