Speaker Mike Johnson said Tuesday that his plans to release all security footage from the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol have been delayed because Republicans are blurring faces to protect participants.
“We have to blur some of the faces of persons who participated in the events of that day, because we don't want them to be retaliated against and be charged by the DOJ,” Johnson told reporters Tuesday, adding that he still wants to release those tapes “as quickly as we can.”
More than 1,200 people have been charged in the attack and more than 700 of those have pleaded guilty.
Johnson said not blurring the faces of those who entered the Capitol on Jan. 6 could cause them “other concerns and problems.” It is “a slow process,” he said, but additional staff have been hired to work on the alterations and ultimately release the 44,000 hours of footage.
“We want the American people to draw their own conclusions. I don't think partisan elected officials in Washington should present a narrative and expect that it should be seen as the ultimate truth,” said Johnson.
So where are they getting this footage from? 🤔
.
That would make more sense since the feds have the tapes anyway. They just used the ones they wanted for their own purposes.
“Attack”
I imagine all the feds were masked
Why are they doing this? This is precisely why you should release the tapes.
It’s pretty clear they weren’t.
Is there anyone out there who could put pressure on Johnson, and force him to release the tapes unblurred?
The doj already have copies. This doesn’t make sense
Odd how Politico left the “retaliation” part out of its headline...
WT* good is it then?
“The DOJ already has it all or the equivalent of it all. This is con reason. We all know what the real reason is.”
It is reassuring to see that 3 people already posted the same obvious truth, that the DOJ already has all the footage. The attempted gaslighting by Politico doesn’t work on the average American. But they keep trying.
Sounds like Johnson is following Pelosi’s footsteps.
This is wrong.
The tapes are PUBLIC record of a PUBLIC place of people out in PUBLIC. There is no expectation of privacy.
Exactly. You can tell that a politician is lying because his lips are moving.
Thus far, he seems to lack focus. Blurring the faces will make the release of the tapes far less impactful.
That’s one possibility, but knowing how rabid the DOJ, is my vote is that it is to protect those who haven’t been hounded by the feds.
The Feds are the ones with the unredacted footage. They don’t want us to see it.
Johnson has also said he will not be blurring the faces of the Feds and undercover agents and informants
If he follows through, it could be interesting
