Trump likely did realize that, at least in terms of internalizing the official abuse he suffered at the hands of Pelosi that day. She unaccountably prevented Trump’s idea, of deploying 10,000 national guard troops to the Capitol, from moving forward. Surely Trump’s heart began to sink in real time when he realized Pelosi was gleefully inviting disaster by stonewalling him. He must have thought—Nancy’s up to something very, very bad.
Pelosi knew she had nothing to worry about. Trump was very weak in dealing with her.
When she smirkingly tore up the SOTU on live TV, she should have been hauled out of there immediately and have lost her position as Speaker and been at least censured if not impeached as a Representative.
In fact, Trump was weak in dealing with the Dems in general. So Nancy just took it and ran with it.
