Over Half of US at Elevated Risk of Winter Blackouts Due to Biden Energy Policies, Watchdog Comments on Industry Report

An energy watchdog group is warning that President Joe Biden’s energy policy has put more than half the country at elevated risk of blackouts this winter.

Citing a new energy report, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association pointed to Biden’s policies as a direct threat to the stability of America’s energy grid, according to Fox Business Network.

That threat may be acutely felt in the coming months, as AccuWeather is predicting a harsh winter season.

“A strengthening El Niño will make this winter … colder with plenty more snow for millions of people who live in major cities,” AccuWeather reported on Oct. 4, adding that the weather will be especially severe across the Central and Eastern U.S.

It could be a recipe for serious issues for the electrical grid, according to the Winter Reliability Assessment from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).

The group explained that residents from Texas to New England could be subject to blackouts during the expected extreme cold this winter due to “inadequate generator weatherization and limitations to natural gas infrastructure,” the Washington Examiner reported.

“The confluence of both of those factors has year after year resulted in wide swaths of generators being unavailable for some of our most critical winter periods and hours where the system needs it the most,” said John Moura, NERC director of reliability assessment and performance analysis.

“If” we lose power again here in San Antonio this winter, next summer we will have solar cells and a whole-house battery bank. ERCOT has had their shot...if they don’t have it sorted out by now, they all need to be fired.

Odd how this hasn’t been an issue for almost like forever but now it is.

Let’s all run out and buy electric cars and replace our natural gas furnaces with heat pumps. Yea, that’s the ticket.

Biden +1

I’d do the same thing. It’s hard to fight government policy.

“expected extreme cold this winter”

That would sort of balance out alleged higher average summer temperatures.

The weather had better follow the prophecies of Rev. Gore come 2025.

The ability to sell electricity for say 500 times a normal price is something some people would like to remain unfixed.

I feel certain they’ll successfully shift blame in a direction away from themselves.

In Florida the scam is homeowners insurance.

In Texas, the scam is electricity.

Oh, remember the days when the scam was merely the government.

I pity the fools who don’t know how AOC has revolutionized the electricity grid.
Just plug a space heater into a power strip like the one below, and you’ll be fine.

I was in the power industry for over 30 years and I saw this emerging problem many years ago (as have many others). You mix intermittent, unreliable, and non-dispatchable (means you cannot simply say “I need 1,000 more MW now”) supply technologies (wind and solar) that mismatch demand throughout the day, have no energy storage systems in place, add in huge federal financial incentives as well as the “Renewable Portfolio Standards” that push utilities to renewables and you have a pending disaster. You might even get massive cascading outages like the Northeast Blackout of 1965.

Things are a bit better here in Idaho. We live in the midst of a forested area and we regularly get extended outages due to tree falls in high winds. That, combined with the green fetish, the increasing lack of supply and grid instability led me to install a backup generator a couple years ago. It’s natural gas fired which will have its own supply problems, but I figure that natural gas will be more reliable than electricity in the coming years...at least until some insane Dem completely bans all burning of natural gas. At that point, I’ll have to convert it to propane and put in a big tank.

It is such a pain in the ass to have to second-guess politicians hellbent on destroying us and spend money to stay ahead of them.

“Let the bastards freeze in the dark!”

Echoes pf the 1973 crude oil crisis. Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana were really taking it out on the northern tier of states.

Seems like only yesterday when this was not a real credible threat. But then, you could always go out to the woods and cut up some firewood.

That option probably does not exist any more.

People get ready. It’s going to get worse before it gets better in ObamaBrandon’s America.

There will be blackouts, and you will be happy.

My furnace guy tells me that all modern gas furnaces require electricity. And by golly, he was right. I lost electricity for two days last winter. And so I lost heat for two days last winter.

It wasn’t pleasant. Given that Biden continues to weaken the grid, I suppose I should be expecting more of that in the future.

And as a side note, there is a huge coal-fired electricity plant about a half-hour from my house. It goes on for blocks and blocks. It’s abandoned. The EPA shut it down about ten years ago.
