We can hope the fool does move to Germany and takes along many others.
My youngest Daughter says she is moving to Italy in a year. I don’t think she is thinking this through. For all of our country’s faults, she is still living in the greatest country on the planet. Italy is in a state of perpetual chaos financially. I hope she comes to her senses before she makes a very big mistake.
I'm pinging a FReeper who's retired military and lives in Germany for his input.
I hope the person moves to Germany. One less person looking for a free ride in the USA.
There’s no free lunch. Someone is working to pay for that — mainly each citizen through taxes.
Germany has taken in a lot of Muslims, and now they will take Palestinian refugees. That may cause some social issues. And if the U.S. escalates the war against Russia via Ukraine, there could be war problems. Not a good time to move to Europe, I think.
Seeing is believing.
I think it was Douglas Murray who said the best thing you can do to cultivate gratitude toward what you have is to see what it is like without.
Didn’t even try to point out how much in taxes that free stuff cost.
They’d become indoctrinated. Reminded me of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
“I wanted to explode and tell them nowhere is like the USA...”
No, no, let them go, encourage them. Tell them to tear up their passports so they aren’t tempted to come back.
It cracks me up how many Zero-G tuba players are wanting to move to a Europe soon to be run by Muslim Terrorists and everyone else on the friggin’ planet is sneaking into America. Tells me that those Zero-Gs trannies aren’t very bright.
You want ‘free stuff’? Go to Europe.
You want to ‘earn stuff’? Come to America.
We’re the land of opportunity, not the land of gibsmedat.
Or, at least, that’s the way it’s supposed to be ...
He should definitely go. One thing he’ll realize early on is that his media-fueled misconceptions about Europe are no better than his media-fueled misconceptions about his own country. Just different.
Having lived in Germany, Austria, Hungary and France, there truly are things that are better on the other side of the pond. Mostly, those are cultural products like art, music, architecture, from their much longer history. When I was younger and lived over there I did like the more compact cities because it made things much easier to go meet with friends in the evening. Now that I’m older and have a dog, I appreciate space much more.
There is no doubt whatsoever that the standard of living in Europe is LOWER than the standard of living in the US. Yes, that is true of even wealthier countries like Germany and Austria. Also, life is nowhere near as convenient in Europe as it is in America and you are not nearly as free. Move to a new address? You’re supposed to go notify the police of your new address. As a gun collector now, you are nowhere near as free to do that. Drive right up and park? Forget it. Being able to shop anytime? Nope. Freedom of speech? Don’t even think about it.
My Cuz Bill, Army vet in Germany, married a German woman in the 80s. To Bill’s advantage he had a very German Surname - Halbeisen.
They have 3 children, lived in Germany for several years, visited the US several times, entire family was multi-lingual.
The southern duchies are very conservative, Bill works as a door installer/hanger. He installs, repairs and replaces doors of all types from kitchen cabinet doors to rolling warehouse doors.
Bill and family did move to USA in late 90s long enough for his wife and children to earn their US citizenship, they all have US Passports per my uncle. And they have a exit plans in place should SHTF. Bill said at the last reunion, he’d return to USA but he loves the fishing in Germany - catch and release. It’s expensive and the annual tests are grueling but the best fishing ever.
What’s very funny is Bill is the only one in the family who’s voice has that German grunt-al tone.
Absolutely nothing is more expensive than “free” stuff from the government.
I refuse to live anywhere that must be disarmed. Europe across the 20th century has shown the risk. 100 million dead?
Great website called Schnitzel Republic. Run by a GI that was stationed in Germany and then married a German gal and stayed. Gives great commentary on current affairs in Krautland. Not all it’s cracked up to be.
I lived there for a few years and left when Merkel cancelled my residency to make room for her imported violent pets from Africa and the Middle East. I did enjoy certain parts. I especially liked living down in Bavaria. Being older and conservative there were many arguments with oh so smarty-pants Germans about how great it is with free stuff. Sure. But a 70% tax rate doesn’t sound free to me. Before the invaders hospitals were fine. Now. I imagine they are filled with imported Muslims. But even if medical care is “free” how much time do they plan to stay in the hospital? I have oy.been to a hospital once in near 60 years.
The arrogant America hater will find a welcoming crowd of fellow America haters. They will smugly make fun of Americans for not travelling, paying for health care out of pocket, how wonderful the DB train system is, and all the usual Marxist claptrap. However, reality will slap them in the face when they are assaulted by a “German resident of immigrant back ground” and they get their first electricity bill.
As nice as Western Europe is to visit, it is NO WHERE CLOSE to the GOOD OLD USA!
Sure things are "free" but taxes run about 70%. Bureaucratic oversight is insane (paperwork and reports for their business). The mindset of the average German is quite liberal and the older Germans still suffer from "German guilt" which basically paralyzes their thinking process, IMO.
It used to be (I assume it is still the same) the government (i.e. taxpayers) would pay for your college but they decided if you qualified. No yardsales/flea markets on Sundays, well, just because they say so. When there are rules that make no sense the average German just says "that is the rule, we don't question it".
Then there is the crime from the immigrants (good website, updated daily, if you want to stay up with crime in EU:

At the rate we are going in America with open borders this may be a view of things to come.
Read the Declaration of Independence.
Governments are removed when they do not affect your safety and your happiness.
Are you safe? Are you happy?
My sister in law and other relatives by marriage actually have lived there most of their lives and they would beg to differ about all this article has to say. Europe is overrun with Muslims and other third world flavors who are much more adept at sucking up all that “free” the people exampled in this article covet.
