Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announced on Thursday that he is departing Seattle for Miami.
“Seattle has been my home since 1994 when I started Amazon out of my garage. That’s my dad behind the camera in this video, touring Amazon’s first “office.” My parents have always been my biggest supporters. They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger (Miami Palmetto High class of ’82 — GO Panthers!)” Bezos wrote on Instagram.
He shared that his parents decided to move to Miami, and that he wanted to remain physically close to them. He also added that his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez loves the city and that some of his business operations are moving into southern Florida.
“I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami. Also, Blue Origin’s operations are increasingly shifting to Cape Canaveral. For all that, I’m planning to return to Miami, leaving the Pacific Northwest,” he added.
Blue Origin is an aerospace manufacturer and space technologies company that makes rocket engines for spacecraft and satellites. The company says that it wants to create reusable rockets to meet the needs of both defense and commercial customers.
“I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here. As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart,” he concluded.
Bezos joins the growing number of wealthy individuals to leave liberal enclaves in favor of red states. Hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin announced that he would depart Chicago for Miami, citing violent crime rates.
Seattle is now terrible but Washinton State has no State Income Tax...
Yep
“Washington State doesn’t have personal or corporate income tax.”
I did not know that.
I am surprised to learn a state can be destroyed without confiscatory taxation.
“he’s doing it to get out of paying state income taxes”
How do you figure that? Neither Washington State nor Florida have a state income tax.
BUT!! Florida does not have a state-level tax on capital gains. The 2021 Washington State Legislature passed a law creating a 7% tax on the sale or exchange of long-term capital assets such as stocks, bonds, business interests, or other investments and tangible assets. This tax only applies to individuals.
That is the real reason he moved.
In May of 2021, Washington Governor Jay Inslee (D) signed legislation (ESSB 5096) enacting a capital gains tax equal to 7% of a Washington resident’s adjusted long-term capital gains. Effective January 1, 2022, this new tax applies only to individuals, including owners of pass-through entities and disregarded entities.
In 2020, Seattle Democrat politicians passed a new tax on salaries:

Jeff Bezos bailed out before Seattle could ensnare him in a proposed capital gains tax:

These people break out in hives if they even begin to tell the truth. It’s all about the Benjamins. Which would be fine if he wasn’t such a despotic socialist would thinks we should all be taxed to death.
Nothing but crap spews out of both ends of these people.
bring your $$$ and jobs to red states, leave your liberal views upon the ash heap of failure in the liberal west
Why is leaving? He SUPPORTS everything that is happening in Seattle.
I’d like to stay but I must be going. The reason I am leaving is not the reason.
Liberals love liberalism, but they don’t want it for themselves................................
““Washington State doesn’t have personal or corporate income tax.”

Washington has plenty of confiscatory taxation, sales tax over 10% carbon offset gas tax of over 50 cents per gallon on top of the highest per gallon gasoline sales tax in the country
and they are going to pass a special tax on billionaires which would directly affect Bezos.
Hmmmn...lots of “names” coming here. As long as they leave their ideas behind them..
Palm Beach and Broward remain playgrounds for the limousine liberals. Miami-Dade goes both ways.
Washington state has no state income tax, which is why we have a disproportionate share of USA billionaires.
However, in 2022, we just had our first year of capital gains tax on stocks, sale of a business, and other investments.
The Washington state Constitution forbids any form of income tax.
No problem for the Washington state Supreme Court!
The Court decided that capital gains on a stock or a business is NOT income!
Our new capital gains tax has a standard deduction of $250,000.
There is a 7% tax on all gains above $250,000.
More creative taxes on capital gains are on the way.
The now totally dominant Democratic Party in Washington state has begun fantasizing out loud about special taxes on entrepreneurs who have NOT sold any of their stock or any part of their business.
“...Washington has plenty of confiscatory taxation, sales tax over 10%...”
Washington State sales tax is 6.5%. City of Seattle adds another 3.75%.
One party rule is what ALL mail in voting gets you, we now have CA., WA., OR., and CO. with ALL mail in balloting this HAS TO STOP the citizens need to some how vote on doing away with this HOWEVER with ALL mail in voting the amendment would surely lose!! The citizens in these states are between a rock and a hard place!!
Today, even after DeSantis cleaned up the voter fraud, Broward still looks like one of the most Hard Left counties in the state.
Broward County has changed since the 60's when my Grandparents lived there. Let's just say the demographics have changed significantly.
Yep- poor Space Coast feels so different these days.
...”Miami-Dade goes both ways...”
So does Key West, for that matter..
Key West is pretty much 100% gay.
