A professional hockey player’s brutal death during a match has ignited controversy online, with the media attributing the incident to an accident, while social media users remain skeptical.

Over the weekend, hockey player Adam Johnson, 29, suffered a fatal injury during an Elite Ice Hockey League game at Sheffield Arena in England caused by an opponent’s ice skate blade slicing open his neck.

It looked deliberate to me.

Horrible, but actually, I’m surprised this or something similar doesn’t happen more often. Those players are skating about like off the track freight trains, barely missing each other.

Throats have been cut during hockey games before, the blades are extremely sharp and crap happens on the ice.

I've watched a lot of Hockey, although I'll concede, many have watched more than me. But, I've never seen anyone have their skate up that high. I mean, that was easily 5 feet above the bottom of his foot. I'm not saying he was aiming to slash Johnson's neck, I'm not even sure he saw him, but allowing your skate to go up that high, when you're still in control is just reckless.

I glanced at this earlier today in a lower resolution, and I thought it was a stretch to call it deliberate. I played goalie for years, and things happen too fast in collisions, that I can’t see how anyone could have fit something like that in there. I thought you would have to be really talented to contrive a collision and convert it into something malicious.

However, in looking at it now, I originally thought that he cut across the back of the other player and collided with him causing him to tumble and the foot to go up, but...now that I look at it...it doesn’t look like they even touched each other as the guy cut across in back of him. He just went into that weird posture and the leg came up.

Looking at it now, it is so weird that I can’t imagine any move other than an intent to injure.

Yes. I saw the shorter, lo-res clip and thought it was a collision in which darn near anything can happen. But, watching the longer clip, it wasn’t a collision.

much more stupid and careless compared to the brand of hockey that even I grew up with in the 1970s and on into the 1980s (and there were complaints about how the game was evolving at that time even).
There was an old joke back then "I went to see a fight and a Rangers game broke out."

Media slime ignoring because it’s black on white murder, which they encourage and support.

When I saw the first grainy video, it looked like maybe he bounced off the back of the player in white. However, the clearer video shows he made NO contact with the player in white. It is pretty clear he made a deliberate kicking motion aimed at Johnson.

Involuntary manslaughter. Aggravated assault with the intent to cause harm. Should get 10 years minimum in jail. Banned from hockey for life.

“Media slime ignoring because it’s black on white murder, which they encourage and support.”

It was funny to see the about-face today from the woketards on a hockey message board I frequently read.

Last night and earlier today they were unanimous that “This was no accident!!!!!”, with all kinds of Zapruder film-type analysis to prove it.

Then somebody noticed that the throat slasher was black.

Suddenly, it was “This was OBVIOUSLY an accident and anyone who says otherwise is a RACIST!!!!”. And “you can’t tell anything from that video!!!”

I’m surprised that woke punkies don’t get whiplash from turning around so abruptly.

Since this happened in England any proceedings would be over there save the hockey ban which could cover any North American leagues.

The elements of murder are premeditation, malice aforethought, and deliberation.

I'm gonna say 2 out of 3, so criminal manslaughter should apply.

Reminded me of Eric Cantona kicking a fan during a game.

That is not a hockey play. That is not an accident.

No it was not an accident as he had to raise his leg to kick or “push off” the opponent. It’s covered in the USA hockey rulebook sec 6:

Rule 627 | Kicking Opponent or Puck

(Note 1) Kicking is the action of a player deliberately using his skate(s) with a kicking motion to propel the puck or to contact an opponent.

(Note 2) A “push-off” with the skate is defined as the action where a player uses their skate(s) in a non-kicking motion to make contact with the opponent.

(a) A major plus a game misconduct penalty shall be assessed to any player or goalkeeper who uses their skate to “push off” an opponent.

(b) A match penalty shall be assessed to any player or goalkeeper who kicks, attempts to kick or recklessly endangers an opponent by kicking.

I couldn’t find anything on the rules for the English league he was playing in so they be more or less descriptive of the act. if it was up to me, he put the opponent in danger with the act, and he should be suspended from professional hockey for a minimum of two years and up to five without pay depending on his history and the act itself.
