Given the occasion, we wouldn't blame Morning Joe for laying it on a bit thick, but there are limits. they were stretched beyond the breaking point when Scarborough hailed Barnicle as "one of the greatest columnists of the 20th century."
It's true that for many years, Barnicle's columns at the Boston Globe had an avid following. But Barnicle's days at the Globe came to an ignominious end in 1998, when the paper forced him to resign over plagiarism. One in which he had lifted, without attribution, 80 humorous lines from George Carlin. The second, based on reporting by the Boston Phoenix, in which Barnicle lifted portions of a 1986 column from a 1961 book by New Yorker writer A.J. Liebling.

My biggest beef with Barnicle isn’t his past as a columnist. It’s the fact that he—very—rarely contributes interesting comments to the Morning Joe conversation.
Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
He could be POTUS material........................
Mika must have cut Moanin’ Joe off.
He just turned 80. A little young for the job. :-)
I walked by the television this morning, the they had a four-eyed blowhard pontificating on it like an expert. (I have four-eyes as well, so I don’t feel bad including that there)
I paused as I looked, thinking perhaps I should know who it is with people hanging on his every word. And then I thought, if these people are treating him like some kind of wise oracle, there is zero possibility that he would be that.
Until I saw his picture, I didn’t realize it was Mike Barnicle. Well. They don’t really punish plagiarism in journalism any more, or they don’t observe the tenets of journalism any more, so this guy, who should never have worked after his firing from the Boston Glob, is no doubt viewed as a person of influence by the likes of the “Morning Joe”.
Isn’t that something that hangs on the bottom of a boat?
Mike Barnicle sounds like a Sponge-Bob character.
My list of the greatest columnists of the twentieth century includes the following:
Fulton Lewis Jr.
Henry Hazlitt
Ralph de Toledano
Westbrook Pegler
George Schuyler
Edna Lonigan
George Sokolsky
Freda Utley
Victor Riesel
M. Stanton Evans
Comments BUMP!
What, no H.L. Mencken?
I’d include Jack Kilpatrick in that list.
What is it about Boston and plagiarists? They give this guy a sobriquet of being a great columnist that plagiarizes much of what he writes and a university there gave MLK,Jr. his doctorate with a thesis that was over eighty percent plagiarized.
I remember Barnicle coming on the Don Imus radio show and speak the most inane woke liberal shlock that anyone listening would have thought it was a parody of the left.
Barnicle, breaths and eats the most insane liberal claptrap, on par with another soy-boy, Mike Lupica.
Hamas would tear both of those Twinks to shreds. /spit
Like MLK being a great orator?
Biden a great statesman?
Scarborough probably thinks plagiarist Joe Biden is among the greatest Presidents of the 21st century.
Mencken most definitely, but I limited my list to ten.
