Though tobacco use is declining among adults in the US, cannabis use is increasing. Laws and policies regulating the use of tobacco and cannabis are also moving in different directions.
Tobacco policies are becoming more restrictive, with bans on smoking in public places and limits on sales, such as statewide bans on flavored products. In contrast, more states are legalizing cannabis for medical or recreational use, and there are efforts to allow exceptions for cannabis in smoke-free laws.
These changes mean an increasing number of people are likely to get exposed to cannabis smoke. But how safe is direct and secondhand cannabis smoke?
I am a primary care doctor and researcher in a state where cannabis is now legal for medical and recreational use. My colleagues and I were interested in how opinions about tobacco and cannabis smoke safety have been changing during this time of growing cannabis use and marketing.

ah weed!
some studies say that long term use can cause...uh...uh..uh...what was I talking about?
ah weed!
It's like being drunk on alcohol all the time, and alcohol is far from harmless.
The dangers of cannabis are much greater for children and teens—all studies agree on that.
Put a half joints worth in about five table spoons of brothy, heated soup, and you’ll never see the need to damage your lungs again.
Yeah, Jared Laughner and James Holmes were both heavy pot users in their youth and quickly became schizophrenics.
We’ve known most of this for 50 years or more.
What I don’t get is the medical alarm bias. Big Tobacco was evil incarnate because they got people hopelessly addicted and made great profits off those addicts’ misery. Big Tobacco was rightly vilified and lost half their customers. Where’s the government sponsored ad programs to combat pot addiction? Big Dope has stolen Big Tobacco’s business model. Where is Big Cannabis held accountable?
It’s horrible for developing brains. It should be illegal for anyone under 30 or even 35 for their own safety and quality of life. I’ve never touched it but might after 65 when it won’t really matter. But then I’ve always hated smoking so it would have to be a chewable or nothing. All of my fellow high school alumni (barely graduated) who were stoners over 40 years ago, and still happen to be alive, are total screw ups today. Don’t do it.
yes....inhale smoke into your lungs...what could go wrong?
We finally saw this girl who would light up a bowl about every half hour, emit a cloud of smoke while coughing a lung up then repeated it the whole day.
Pot promoting b^st^rds are worse than communists.
IMHO, it’s the dumbest thing you can do to your body.
SMOKE…I don’t get it, the anti-smoking Nazis are all SMOKING pot. Why is that ok and a cigarette isn’t?
There are people that freak out on white bread and coffee. It’s just another thing.
Unfortunatley the pro-pot leftist deep state has convinced a signficant number of people that smoking pot is actually healthy...that it's medicine. It's much the same way that tobacco industry convinced the public that smoking cigerattes was healthy. It took decades before that lie was unraveled.
That’s right.
She did it like a machine though. No sign that this was a process that would ever end.
The addiction is real. Took my dad three times to quit. Finally did but before he developed COPD.
Horrible way to go.
This was after he was sent to private schools to enhance
the supposed 'genius' potential that some guidance counselor
idiots saw in him.
So he got to party with the rich kids. Of which he was not one of.
His hard working blue collar parents scrimped, saved and
denied themselves in order to pay the tuition on those schools.
A real darn shame.
