Speaker Kevin McCarthy Appears to Take the Out on Impeaching Joe Biden
Red State ^ | 09/01/2023 | Bonchie

Posted on 09/01/2023 7:13:17 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Opposition to Rep. Kevin McCarthy becoming House Majority Leader was palpable on the right at the beginning of 2023. During a drawn-out fight, Rep. Chip Roy and other conservatives held up his promotion to secure a new rules package and guarantees surrounding investigations.

Eventually, McCarthy secured the votes after making several concessions, and at that point, it was fair to wipe the slate clean. He deserved a chance to prove himself, and for the most part, he's been a fairly good leader who has kept his promises regarding investigations into the weaponization of government and the Biden family's corruption.

I suppose it was just a matter of time before he gave cause for disappointment, though. According to a new report, McCarthy has now put up a big roadblock to impeaching Joe Biden. Namely, he wants to hold a vote before even beginning an impeachment inquiry.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made clear to Breitbart News on Friday that if House Republicans move forward with an impeachment inquiry into Democrat President Joe Biden, the move would come not as an announcement from him or anyone else, but from a formal vote on the floor of the House.

“To open an impeachment inquiry is a serious matter, and House Republicans would not take it lightly or use it for political purposes. The American people deserve to be heard on this matter through their elected representatives,” McCarthy told Breitbart News. “That’s why, if we move forward with an impeachment inquiry, it would occur through a vote on the floor of the People’s House and not through a declaration by one person.”

I hate to be the cynic here, but this is McCarthy taking an out on impeachment, likely ensuring it will never take place. By contrast, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the 2019 impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump from the floor.

The entire point of the inquiry is to gather enough facts so that representatives can make an informed vote. Having them vote on the inquiry will just ensure all Democrats vote no, while Republicans would have to garner votes from nearly all of their members. That will be very difficult to do given the number of moderate Republicans who exist in the caucus. How many of them want to go on record voting to begin an impeachment inquiry into Biden?

McCarthy is hanging those moderates out to dry. Either the inquiry fails because they vote no and they get shellacked from the right or the inquiry succeeds because they vote yes and they get shellacked from the left. Why do that? Why not just start the inquiry based on the word of the Speaker, protecting the caucus and unleashing investigators to do their jobs?

One answer may be that McCarthy doesn't intend for there to be a vote. He's definitely not going to hold one if he doesn't have the numbers. Consider this the first major black mark of his tenure. I don't understand the strategy here. He promised an inquiry and now it's completely up in the air whether one will occur.

With that said, maybe he's got the votes and I'm just being cynical. I guess we'll find out.

rather than to show leadership, he’s going to throw the House GOP under the bus.

I’d rather see them repeal the PREP Act, Cares Act, membership in the WHO and UN, and other oppressive legislation currently on the books.

Also, seeing to physical cash remaining accepted legal tender and nothing like a universal digital ID being required online public discourse, government business, or private business transactions.

Their focus should be on returning us to the Constitution.

Biden will never be convicted in the Senate even if he’s on camera taking money in person.

So predictably feckless. Politics is as fixed as pro wrestling.

He would not be convicted in the Senate, but a house impeachment would reveal a lot to the public.

Geez! Terrible writing! The author is either terrible at this or is drunk. Maybe both.

Is anybody really surprised that Kevin McCarthy is squishy on this? Nothing in his track record indicates that he is qualified to be anything other than a career politician.

Let's not forget that he helped build that debt ceiling deal that called for the "leadership" in DC to sign off that they would not increase the national debt more than $4 Trillion (with a T) in 19 months. If you were sitting next to him at a bar, would you leave your cash change on the bar if you were going to the bathroom? If I did, I would not expect it to be there when I got back.

And one thing leads to another.

Even if he isn’t convicted there is certainly more then enough evidence to force a resignation.

But Kamala!

Gee, when I was young I think I saw this movie before: Agnew was forced out over a charge that was considered to be history.

Nice 1-2, huh? First the insurance policy goes pop, then you get the Big Guy.

Worked for the Rats.

In other words, he has to run anything as important as impeachment by Hakeem Jeffries and get his OK before proceeding.

Think of a teenage girl who runs screaming from the room when she sees a mouse. That is Kevin McCarthy.

from what i just read it seems like they’re inching towards a vote. per MTG they have votes to move on to inquiry - so we’ll see when House is back. i am tiring of R’s beating up on leaders like McCarthy - who has delivered pretty consistently given circumstances. no wonder we lose: we eat our own.

He doesn’t have the votes to support impeachment.

Since he doesn’t have the votes, why go through with it, just to make a political statement?

A failed impeachment vote would be a political humiliation.

I know some Freepers say go full speed ahead, and to hell with any other considerations.

Others urge caution, because politically we don’t have the support.

Uh, the other side is hobbling the Republican candidate with vicious prosecutions.

Why not do the same for the crochety cretin?

No reason not to have a nice 9 month spectacle where his name gets dragged thru the mud daily and forces him to be constantly responding...like they’re doing to Trump.

Won’t see Biden luxuriating in Tahoe or Park City during that.

I think McCarthy is right on this one. The Republicans have a very slim majority in the House. If they hold an impeachment inquiry and then can’t win a vote of impeachment, they only empower Biden. It’s best to demonstrate EVERY Republican supports an impeachment inquiry before starting.

This is pure click bait.
There is no way that Joey will not be impeached.
The mountain of evidence will NOT be given to Meritless Garbage to lock in a draw.
The fact is the Democrat/communists have been helping to develop the evidence because they desperately want the Biden Crime Family gone.
People that say nothing will happen to Joey will all end with nothing happening to Joey are either lying, stupid or think we are stupid.
The rodents have to be negotiating with the Republicans as to what THEY will give the Republicans to impeach Joey.
The longer this process takes the more likely it is that when it happens, because the rodents won’t offer enough to make it happen, Joey will be impeached during calendar 2024 which will be disaster for the Democrat/communists.
Timing is our friend.
