Not quite as bad as enabling squatters to illegally take over property, but in the same vein.
Wife had an old episode of Blue Bloods on TV. Made me think. Procedural police shows like that can’t be made any longer.
No longer represents reality.
Anyone expect the DMV to do what’s right? They have a playbook complete with flowcharts, to document how to F everything up.
This happened to a coworker. The false charges were on I-95 between Washington, DC and New Jersey. Maryland had her re-register her car.
I tossed my "Back The Blue" flag in the trash in 2020.
Recently, I replaced a plate on which the paint was flaking off and looked bad. The new plate was a different number, and it cost me a paltry $11.00. That was Pennsylvania, though, not New York. Big difference.

What strikes me is how lazy the imposter was. If I was inclined to try a stunt like that, I would drive around until I saw a car of the same make and model as mine and use that license plate number.
I agree the cops behavior was atrocious. When my father died, he left his car parked in an alternate side of the street parking spot in Long Island City, Queens. No one in the family knew where it was. The cops called the house instead of towing it after several violations. The police officer was very polite.
“Classic government shirking their responsibilities, putting the onus on the victim to fix the issue.”
Yet everyday we hear more demands for government to exert more control over every facet of our lives.
Government workers serve the system, not the people.
i wanted to photoshop a plate number that belonged to our sheriff... black truck and alike... but thought wiser of it...
thought it would be funny to speed with his tag through all the speed cameras he put up
I got a bill for using a toll road in Texas. It took about three phone calls to get ahold of a guy who handles toll fraud in Texas. I got him to call up the photo, told him I hadn’t been to Texas in a decade, and I was concerned someone was running around Texas with a license plate made to look like mine. He said okay and that was that. Never heard another word.
It’s important that if something like this happens that you pursue it until it is resolved. Even though I live in Florida and it’s unlikely I’ll drive through Texas again, the states enforce each other’s fines. Florida can seize my driver’s license until I pay a fine from Texas. (Or, anywhere else.) To reinstate the license is a huge hassle and costs $450 regardless of why it was erroneously cancelled. If you get a bill or notice from another state, you MUST resolve it before it cascade’s into a real disaster.
Be careful in slow go zones in Virginia. The state has authorized cameras. 100.00 non-moving violation fine payable in 30 days or 2 points on your license. I was moving the same speed in packed traffic in a construction zone in Suffolk and there was no sign notification. I got a ticket about a week later. I have been told cities across the state are purchasing cameras. From a news report Suffolk county is placing them in all school zones and work zones about 50 cameras.
Reading all the comments, I have to say in Texas, if you are in the right, the DMV will give you everything you need to use against the toll authority and remind you that no matter what they say you do not have to pay. At least that was some years ago . . .
Unbelievable, isn’t it? DMV tells the poor victim to spend his $210 to “fix” the problem.
It used to be an act of FELONY MAIL FRAUD to knowingly send a Fraudulent Invoice thru the US Mail to ANYONE. File a Criminal Complaint with the Postmaster General.
